Hi I know someone who says she has lupus. After reading all you have though im starting to doubt if she does or not. She is always in the sun without sunscreen, gets burned all the time, and doesnt have any of the joint pain. The only thing that might be a symptom of lupus is she gets dry scaley patches on the backs of her knees, on her elbows, and sometimes patches on her legs. She is only 14 and was diagnosed as a baby could this still be lupus or has she been misdiagnosed?? Thanks for the help.

Hi, personally I don't believe your friend has lupus. Based on the facts you gave. The sun alone racks havit on any one who has lupus. The only way to know for sure is to be tested. Did you say she was told as a baby? I've not heard of anyone being diagnosed that young. My understanding is it usually shows up in the early teens and up. It sounds more like she has a skin disorder. If she finds out for sure she has lupus, get her out of the sun! She will pay dearly for it otherwise. Hope this helps Smile

Lupus As a Baby
There is a type of lupus called neonatal lupus. It is passed from mother to child at birth.

It lasts, usually, for the first year of the child's life and then goes away. I'd ask her specifically if it was neonatal lupus.

That may be the confusion! Hope this helps,
