Hello,

About 8 weeks ago I hyperextended my right knee playing soccer. It was near the end of the game, I walked off fine but was hurting a bit. I had some trouble straightening it out all the way and the underside of my knee was sore and swollen for a week or 2. It is still a bit swollen and sore. All in all I could function.

I had a few weeks off of soccer during that time and have now contiued playing but my symptoms are below and I am concerned how it has affected my level of play.

1) "pinching" on the underside of my knee when straightened out or pulling leg back to buttocks.
2) No major pain, but some discomfort. The best way to describe it is it "just doesn't feel right"
3) Weakness and lack of strength in my knee. This is my biggest issue. I feel my leg is more of a pendulum with no control when I go to strike the ball and feel like I have lost any sort of confidence or control in my kick.

I can however cut, run and move fine playing the game.

I have an appt to see an ortho, but was curious if anyone was familiar with the pinching and weakness in the knee, yet still able to play.

Sounds most likely that you may have torn one of the meniscu's in the knee. the meniscus helps soften the impact of the knee joint, if you tear it, often there is no pain, however there can be times when it could really hurt and this would be when a fragment may have become lodged between the two joints. I wouldnt personally play sport until diagnosed because you may do more damage, you might have to get a soft tissue scan.

Otherwsie, you may have just stretched/sprained the knee and will heal in a couple weeks. tell us how you go Smile

hyperextension of both knees
for as long as i can remember i have always had hyperextension of both knees (i am now 23). but have noticed over years it has gotten worse to roughly about a 15 degree hyperextension. my left knee is slighty worse then the right and is always swollen and hurts. they both contently give out. i was curious if there is a way to help reduce the pain or help correct the hyperextension. thank you

Knee swelling with the weather...
I have chronic knee problems, simply being sore and achy from 10 years being a catcher in baseball throughout my youth. Well with every change in the weather, and barometric pressure changes, the knee flairs a bit, and I use a knee pad/brace. Well about a year ago, my niece, thought uncle Jay, who had his leg resting straight on a table, would not mind a jump and sit from a 90 pound youngster...well since then the knee back and sides, hurt nearly every day, Some worse than others. I have tried exercise, ice and heat, and even found shoes with High arch support. But nothing is doing the trick. Anyone have a idea or suggestions I haven't already tried?
