Ladies I Need Your Help... Posted: 03-22-07 00:30am
Here is my story
From the time I found out I was pregnant I
had some light light brownish spotting.
There was one day were there was some red
blood (only enough to show up on tissue
when I wiped). So I went to the Drs that
day (3/16/07), they did an ultra sound
which showed nothing (to be expected since
I was only 4 1/2 weeks along) my cervix
was still closed so that gave me hope. He
ran my HCG levels that day and then had me
come back in two days to test again the
results are as follows.
3/16 93 IU/L
3/18 94 IU/L
I know these are obviously indicative of a
miscarraige. The Dr informed me I had lost
my baby and wanted me to test again in 2
to 3 days to make sure my levels have
dropped, if they did not drop he wanted me
to take a pill so that I can expel the
contents of my uterus. So today I went
back and my levels are as follows.
3/21 340 IU/L
I have not spoken with my Dr yet so I am
unsure if this means I could still have a
healthy pregnancy. I don't want to get my
hopes up and I am assuming I have
miscarried but my husband has spent hours
on the internet looking up all kinds of
cases were similar things happened and
ended in a healthy pregnancy. Oh yeah, I
have since stopped spotting and I hace no
pain and never did. My boobs still heart
but other than that I have no pregnancy
symptoms. I am unsure of what my Dr will
want to do but I am thinking if he still
wants me to take the pill I will wait
atleast till I am far along enough that
something should show up on U/S if I see
nothing I will be willing to take the
pill. What do you ladies think? I will get
back to you on this one and let you know
what the Dr wants but until then please
give me your opinions.
Thanks

well, that definately appears to have
doubled within 48 hours ideal means
doubling within 24, but in reality for
most people it is within 48 hours).
is that from a pee test?
beta hcg test give you a number like 1875
not in IU/L
this is something you really need to
discuss with your ob/gyn.

The tests that have been done are beta HCG
and the standard way to measure them is
IU/L or mIU/mL which is the same thing
since milli (thousandth) divide into each
other canceling the other out. Anyway the
big picture here is that you would expect
to see a double in serum HCG every 48 to
72 hours. In 48 hours mine did not
increase at all. I was told I had
miscarried and that I would need to take
medication to expel the products of
conception if my hormone levels didn't
drop. So I came back 3 days later to see
if my levels dropped but instead they
increased at a rate that a normal
pregnancy would. So now I am being told
maybe I didn't miscarriage after all and
to come back in two days to get my serum
HCG tested again. Although this may seem
like good news I am not getting my hopes
up.

I don't know a whole lot of the scientific
stuff like that, but I wish you luck!
