I work with a woman about 40 yrs old, who (if you are lucky) only eats four meals a week. Monday through friday, she very seldom has any solid food. She will drink coffee/chocolate mix for breakfast, lunch and supper are either a slim fast or just water or more coffee and cocoa mixed. She tells people that she doesn't need food. Maybe 95-99% of the time, the only time she eats is on weekends and knowing her, probably only two meals a day (saturday and sunday). She is underweight for her height. People have asked me if she is ill because she appears unhealthy looking.
Several of us have tried to tell her this not eating is not good for her health, but she refuses to eat. Afraid to gain weight. Her thought pattern to me, appears to be anorexic, but I don't know enough about it to know for sure. We went to lunch (our department here at work) one day last week and she might have taken three bites...Mostly she just moved the food around her plate.
She is on blood pressure medicine.
This type of eating pattern, nothing during the weekdays and only eating on weekends. What kind of damage can this do to her body? I worry that this habit is going to cause a heart attack some day, but I don't know.
Thanks

It sounds like this lady needs help. If you are her friend, I suggest you somehow get her in contact with a doctor, one who can help this individual recognize she has a problem. Eating the way she has described is not good for the body...Both short term and long term. If it is as serious as it sounds, this lady may need medical attention in order to overcome this form of anorexia.

Good luck Smile

Yeah I agree, its not good for her, and could get alot worse...
If shes wanting to lose weight then she can excercise, eat healthy etc, not become anoriexic (although imsure this isnt her plan)
but you say she underweight, so she shouldnt be losing it anyways!
Deffinately tell her youre worried, or do something. She might not even realise theres anything wrong with what shes doing.
Does she eat evening meals?
Pushing food around on your plate is also a sign of an ed.

Good luck, and I hope shes okay.....
Its good that shes got someone like you to noitce. Alot of people go through this alone.
