Q: Teeth Whitening Question
asked by: KellyM24 on March 21st, 2007

I have tried almost every form of over the counter teeth whitening, such a Crest whitening strips and multiple other products, but none seem to have the results that I am desiring. I have briefly researched teeth whitening through my family dentist. My question is concerning the fact that whether or not whitening through my dentist will help me or not since these other products have failed to bring me the results I have desired. Lastly, what are the risks of professional teeth whitening? Thanks

Hi
Not a professional on htis subject, but my sister in law has been ahving her teeth professionally whitened for years...and no damage so far. I have found rinsing with a capful of hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 cup water will help. But..you have to eliminate coke, (caramel coloring), caffeine, some dark chocolate and black teas.anything that will stain your teeth. Guess you could go for Sprite and Green tea if you had to have htat caffeine fix. Had bleaching trays from my dentist, but that didn't last very long. Its expensive, but worth it if you can avoid the staining foods. Ask someone you see with super white teeth next time who their dentist is, then call and ask him questions! Good luck!

the best method is to just go to your dentist and ask thim the best way to whiten your teeth. ive been using whitening tooth past for years now and have no results. you may want to ask him about the inhouse laser whitening

I had my teeth whitened at a dental clinic and tey used the “Beyond” in-surgery bleaching method. The procedure took only 45 minutes. The bleaching gel is applied directly on your teeth 3 times and the use of special light will accelerate the whitening process. I'm very satisfied with the results. I was warned that the teeth may be a bit sensitive even a couple of days later, but it didn't hurt at all and I didn't even have to take any painkillers !

I know that hey also offer "Home bleaching system" – first a special custom made plastic mould will be prepared for you, after that you will be given special bleaching gel which you will apply into the mould and put on your teeth at home for 7 consecutive nights. I decided to go for the first method - paid a bit more but saved a lot of time !!

Dentists use higher precentage of hydrogen peroxide, so if you didn't manage to have your teeth white enough, a dentist can probably achieve that for you. If you want to know more on the difference between OTC whitening kits and dentist's whitening procedures: http://the-dental-makeover.com/whiten-teet h-to-promote-confidence/the-teeth-whitenin g-system/

Teeth sensitivity
My understanding is that the risks really depend on how sensitive your teeth and gums are. Some of the professional products they use have decent results, but they can also cost you some pain. I've used a great product that works wonders and results in no sensitivity. They use the same ingredient as the dentists, hydrogen peroxide. You'd love this product, Platinum Whites.

It worked great for me
No one's teeth are naturally white. They are different shades of white so you can never really get 100% white teeth. But there are products which can help you remove stains and give your teeth a cleaner look.
The best way is to go to a dentist and pay for a teeth whitening treatment. But that is generally reserved for people who have badly stained teeth or people who have had their braces recently removed.

For an average person, there are several solutions available in the market. The most popular are whitening strips. They are popular because they are the easiest to apply. But they may not be the most effective. I tried out strips but they didn't work for me because they kept coming off, and they take way too long to make an affect.

I resorted to using baking soda and bleach but it was too painful.

Teeth Whitening Trays information
There are many different types of teeth whitening out there. The stronger ones will get your teeth whiter, but will make your teeth really sensitive, this is where you want to be careful. After many different tries, I just found one that that works well, but with little sensitivity.

Hope you find what your looking for.

Jimmy

There are some possible problems after teeth whitening like sensitivity.

You should understand that your teeth enamel goes thinner and thinner. So you have to care about it.
