Anyone can get ovarian cysts...Has nothing to do with if a woman is sexually active or not. As for whether or not you are at an increased chance of developing ovarian cancer, I am sorry, I have no idea. Did you ask your doctor?

Hey, How Did It Start....
I'm 13.I've been having abdominal pain lately. Not really pain, just like muscle aches an occasional rumbling. I thought I was too young to get ovarian cancer and I haven't done anything ( if you know what I mean).
I just wante to know what my problem was, and as ou can see, I came here. How did you cists start out? What were your early signs? Do they run in your family? Please reply back to me. I need answers.

Ps. I've also been late on my period, like almost 2 months, but its happened before. I've had it for only a year, so I thinks its normal to be irregular.

I've had ovarian cysts before. One was the size of a grapefruit but was drained and repaired when I had my hysteretomy. I was having the hysterectomy anyway and when they did the surgery they found the cyst. Usually they hurt on your lower left or right side of your pelvis. The pain could be sharp or a dull aching pain. Usually antibiotics are given for the infection.

A friend of mine used to get them quite often. I used to get tube infections (the tube that goes from the ovary to the uterus) all the time and this was way before I started having sex. I don't think ovarian cysts have anything to do with odds of getting ovarian cancer though. Usually you have to have a pelvic exam or certain tests to check for ovarian cancer because you don't always have any symptoms. But it's a very serious type of cancer and that's why you need to have a pelvic exam and pap smear every year.

Hi all:

i do not normally post in this forum, however being an ovarian cancer survivor I felt the need to reassure you all.

Ovairan cancer is rare and even rarer in young adults. The bad thing is that it is a silent killer as it generally offers no symptoms. The tumors need to be "felt" during an internal exam at the gynocologist, and by then may be too far progressed to offer much of a chance to the sufferer. I never had cysts, painful periods or any other indicator when I was dx.

I truly believe, although I am not a Dr. That most of your symptoms sound like endometriosis

symptoms can include the following.

Abnormal menstrual periods
severe menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea)
some vaginal bleeding before the start of the menstrual period (premenstrual spotting)
pain
pelvic pain
severe menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea)
low backache 1 or 2 days before the start of the menstrual period (or earlier), subsiding during the period
pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia)
rectal pain
pain during bowel movements

if any of these these match your current symptoims, you need to talk to your mother or father about this and have them take you to a gynocoligst.

Do not be afaraid to tell them or the dr the truth, this can be treated with medication and in most cases is not a serious condition.

Take care - stephanie
