Q: Low Placenta?

I'm 16 weeks right now and I just had my first ultrasound a couple of days ago. While they were doing the ultrasound, the tech told me that the placement of the placenta was low. I was wondering if that would cause any complications.

I think it could potentially cause complications. There's a condition called placenta previa that I think you should be aware of. I'm not trying to scare you at all, but just keep it in mind in case your doctor brings it up.

Information on this condition can be found at http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy /pregcomplications/830.html

(mods, please let me know if posting that link is against the toa)

.your doctor should discuss the ultrasound findings at your next appointment as well as your options from here. Good luck, and please keep us updated.

for now don't worry doll.
It's called lowline placenta.
You're early in pregnancy and the chance of your placenta moving on it's own is great.
At my 20 week scan they saw my placenta was only 1.5cm away from my cevix, wheras most are about 3 or so, I think that's how he explained it anyways... I just know it was 1.5 something and called lowline placenta Laughing .
next Monday I have my follow up scan just to be sure it moved.
but definitely look at the site about placenta previa , because it is a possibilty and it's very informative.

A few words of advice , because of where your placenta is sitting... you can possibly bleed/spot easier ... be sure to be extra careful and gentle if engaging in any of the fun stuff , and just take it as easy as possible, that doesnt mean bedrest or anything drastic , just take your time with things and be especially easy on your body. They'll most likely do a follow up scan in a month or so , maybe sooner maybe later to see how things have progressed.

Good Luck!

i have a "kind of" low placenta too...i dont think it causes any problems but i know if its too low then u have to get a c section...[which mine doesnt sit that low] but since your baby will be sitting low , when you sneeze you might pee your self a little or just when you cough
