Hello. I am a 25-yr-old female and new to these boards. I have been experiencing symptoms of hypoglycemia becoming worse over the past few months and my mother was recently diagnosed with it. My doctor has been sending me in for some testing but has not yet given me any kind of diagnosis.
I recently had a 3-hour oral glucose tolerance test (sorry, don't know how many grams of glucose) and here were the results:
fasting: 72 (not familiar with the units, sorry)
~glucose given~
1 hour: 43
2 hour: 60's (can't remember exactly)
3 hour: 60's (can't remember exactly)
My doctor has still not spoken with me about this test. Someone from the office called and told me to go back for a fasting insulin test. I hope that my doctor will finally get around to having a converstaion about all of this with me when I am informed of those reults, but, in the meantime, I am trying to make sense of my test results and what she's getting at with the insulin test.
I have tried finding examples of various test results depending on the diagnosis, but I cannot find any example of levels falling in the first hour, even in hypoglycemic patients. I'm thinking that looks hypogylcemic, but I'm new to all of this and don't really know. If it is hypoglycemia, is it severe? 43 just seems low to me, especially for the first hour.
I would appreciate any help and insight anyone could give me on this. I have also been curious if part of the problem could be related to the fact that I am 8 months postpartum, my cycles are still in a funk, and I'm breastfeeding.
Thanks for your help!
