Q: Missed Doses of Ortho Tri Cyclen

Hello-

my girlfriend takes ortho tri-cyclen, usually faithfully, but told me that she missed the first few doses of her new pack (immediate after her period), because she had run out. She did start on day 4 of the new pack, and she thinks we're ok because it was the start of the cycle - is she right?

Thanks in advance...

Hi,
i dont want you to freak out here but my doctor told me once that if you are late starting the pack you could ovulate during that time and that usually the first couple of days of the new pack are the most important because they tell your body to stop ovulating for that month and the rest of the months pills are there to keep up the message not to ovulate.

If you did have unprotected sex and its not to late I strongly suggest you get the morning after pill.

But then again, some girls dont get pregnant when they are off the pill for months, others get pregnant if they are a few hours late. Everyone is different.

Hope everything works out ok.

When you skip or miss a dose of birth control, your body is not 99.9% protected against pregnancy for up to three months later. And this is assuming she has taken it faithfully for the whole three months. After two weeks it will have kicked in for the most part, but three months is the time that it takes. So be very careful.
