Q: Harder to Recover From Seiz.?

Hello all, I am new here and was wondering if anyone has the same problem I do. I am 38 yrs. old and had my first seizure almost exactly 5 years ago, following a surgery where a bleeder wasn't tied off and bled internally for 36 hours and was losing consiousness before I was taken back to surgery.

Anyway my question is: I have both granmal and petitmal. Week before last I had petits 2 days in a row for a total of 6-8. It took me several days (4-5) to really get to feeling good again and get my strength back and thoughts straight. The intesity hasn't increased but I used to be able to recover from a PM within a few hours and a Gm in a day or so but now it takes me a couple of days even to recover from a PM. Does anyone else have this problem or any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Clovis

Recovering From Seizures Can Be Difficult
You're not alone in this. I have Partial-Complex Seizures with an occasional GranMal (also Simple Seizures). When I do have the Partial Complex type Seizures, it drains me completely. What's worse is when I
have these type of Seizures, I have no idea that it has happened (other than what my family members tell me). Last year, I had one during church (of all places). I don't remember much of what happened. From what family members told me, I screamed (during the sermon!). The pastor was scared and didn't know what to do. The only thing I can remember of that day is sitting in church, singing and then having the urge to use the bathroom, so I left for the ladies room. Once in the ladies room I began to cry uncontrolably (not understanding why). The pastor sent one of the "Elder" ladies in to check on my well-being. The only thing I could think of is that I must of had a Seizure. My family confirmed this for me. I was exhausted the rest of the day. Ended up nursing a major migraine headache. Wasn't much fun.

Totally understand what your going through. If you need the rest and are able to do it, go for it. That's your body telling you you need rest.

Take care. Keep in touch.

I feel for you shorty. I've had 2 in public places (wal-mart and a club). Fortunately this is a very small area and everyone we are in contact with regularly knows my condition and is good about helping. I've had them at friends houses too and they've been great about understanding.

After I put up this post I was able to talk to my doc. and he said after you have seiz. for a while or if you have them in combination with migraines it's common to take several days to fully recover. Doesn't speed it up but at least lets you know it's not just you.

I am very fortunate (if you can be in our situation) that I have been able to get my disability and my husband is able to be with me most of the time. Between him and our 17 yr. old son I am very well taken care of and am worse about pushing myself to do things than either one of them wants me to be. Even tho it doesn't help physically I've found the emotional supprt you can gain on these boards helps a lot.
Take care, laura
