I am a 28 year old married woman who as long as I can remember, have been annoyed by all the little things. I spaz out if I hear people eating, the noise makes my whole body tense and I just want to scream. People chewing gum, to include snapping their gum, chewing with their mouth open, the way people eat to include scraping their teeth along silverware, talking with their mouth full, clanging of silverware on dishes, slurping drinks, just everything in general about the act of eating. Recently I've noticed that I am also annoyed when my husband bites his fingernails which he has been doing since he was a kid. I can't concentrate when I hear any of these noises and stay angry for a long time afterwards; almost wanting to breakdown and cry to get over it. This has been affecting me for so long and I hate it. I want to be that person who doesn't even notice, the one that doesn't hear the noise until you bring it to their attention. Obviously I need some help to get over this but I don't know what kind. Please help!

Exposure
If you don't have other anxiety issues then I would think all you need is exposure to the things that bother you the most and to learn to live with it. Put yourself in an anxious spot until you are comfortable and make the anxious spot more and more difficult until you are completely bored with the exercise. It does work. Also, meditation will help you learn to relax on command and deal with thoughts that insite the anxiety.

Give it a try,
OE

i too am annoyed with all of the above mentioned things and it seems like other annoyances keep being added to the list (and they aren't food related). i have tried hypnotherapy and that did help but it didn't last. i'm currently trying to find some other form of treatment because whatever i try on my own is not working. best of luck to you. i truly feel your pain Sad
