I've never had mine removed, but I did want to wish you a speedy recovery.

I had mine removed errrrrrr 15 years ago 
Mine had turned ganrenous and actually ruptured while I was in prep for surgury - so I got lucky - kinda.
because of that though they had to cut a larger incision to clean it out - I've a good 6 inch scar, whereas my brother has a scar about an 1 1/2 - 2 inches.
I was scheduled to stay in hospital on bed rest for a week
I was walking the same day - went home the second day - much to the suprise of the nurses and was back in school on the friday (had the op on a monday).
It took maybe 2-3 weeks for the muscles to stop hurting and get some strength back.
