Q: Removal of Stomach?
asked by: alynmo on March 11th, 2007

A family member who under went gastric bypass about 5 or 6 years ago has recently underwent another procedure to remove more of her stomach due to ulcers at the staple line. She is now in the hospital, her entire stomach and some of her intestine is ulcerated. They are talking about removing her stomach entierly. Can a person live without a stomach? Is it possible for someone to get a stomach transplant? I have searched the internet and cannot find anything about artificial stomachs being used in people, and the artificial stomach that I did find is just a big machine that digests food for medical research. Any answers and suggestions are appreciated.

removal of whole stomach
i am an asian male aged 68. my diagnosis is stomach lymphoma.

i had my whole stomach, spleen and gallbladder removed in a single operation last March. luckily i recovered very well. i can keep my weight in the range of 150's when i was above 160 lb before the operation.

i can take in everything now only that i have to chew thoroughly and swallow slowly. And that don't lie flat after eating. i am now leading a normal life as before.
