Hey, I was unsure where to post this.
I recently finished taking prednisone for a couple of months.
It started at 40 mg and eventually worked it's way down by increments of 5.
Anyway, this is what I looked like before the Prednisone,

and this is what my face looks like now,

Sad

I've heard that the moon face eventually goes away. How long do I have to wait for this to happen? Is there anyway to help the process along? This has me pretty depressed, I just want to look normal again.

Thanks Smile

It took my husband 8 months to a year but each month we saw improvement. Just like everywhere else it takes a long time to loose the fat it took no time tro gain. Sorry the answer isn't more positive but my husband had a number of other heath problems that may have caused it to go slowwer than it would for "normal healthy" people.

I Have Been On And Off Prednisone!
Hello, i have been sick with asthma all my life and been chronically ill for over 15 years, i have been on and off (now for 8 months) prednisone for alot of that time.. the moon face does go away! It takes time and it is so gradual that you will not notice it and weight will come off.. 5 keys to success is Water ALOT, NO Salt NO sugar, no alcohol and exercise. While on prednisone you DO NOT lose weight even if starving your self ( i did it it didn't work, but made me miserable). Common sense and if you have asthma, don't get down on your self, unfortunatley that is side effects of prednisone.. and alot of the drugs that we as asthmatics have to take. if you have to take solumedrol by iv that too will cause moon face and weight gain.. exercise! good luck ww

Prednisone
I also have been on and off of prednisone for the past year and half. I am also dealing with the moon face. I understand exactly what you are going through. I have what is called orbital psuedor tumor. I started off on 60mg for a whole month and then went down to 40,20,10 and then 5mg. I have to say that being on this medication sucks...

I've been on prednisone for almost 2 yrs now and I hate it but I'm also very grateful as it helps me greatly with my Lupus. I have been able to lead a normal life, working and going to school full time but I've had to deal with a 40lbs weight gain, the horrible moon face and mood swings. Hopefully another medication will come along and I could start withdrawing from prednisone.

update on 2 years without prednisone!
Hi friends, sunny yes i agree to the benefits of prednisone, i have been off now 2 years and the moon face has subsided allot! So hang in there. luvsme I am very greatful for prednisone as i would have died with out it, so we must look on the postive side. If we didn;t have it we would be suffering immensley or dead. I put on allot more weight Mad as it is impossible to lose weight on prednisone, even after 2 years i am still holding allot weight, so u must be super concious of diet.. giggle Stay strong, keep active, we have to work those lung muscles slowley, to get better. Idea as for the mood swings, i have learned to try and curb it when i get "enraged", Rolling Eyes its tough and my hubby has gone threw"hell" with me. If i hear of any new treatments i will let you know.. god bless WW
