I have hpv Sad in 1996 I had to have leep surgery done to remove pre-cancerous cells. I posted on the board in the past that it was almost 8 years that I have had great pap tests and no signs of the pre-cancerous cells coming back.

Well, I went for my yearly pap test in january and they found abnormal cells again. My doctor said that my pap test wasn't really bad but he wanted to take precautions and do the colposcopy. He said if it came back mild they would freeze, if it came back moderate to severe, they would do leep surgery. I went in the beginning of february for my colposcopy and just got my test results back on wednesday. The pre-cancerous cells are back Crying or Very sad the doctor said I need to have leep surgery done again but its not bad enough for a hysterectomy. Well, hearing leep surgery was bad enough but hearing a hysterectomy was even worse. I'm going in this tuesday for my leep surgery.

I was reading up about the pre-cancerous cells and it said that reoccurance was slim. Well, I guess i'm one of the unfortunate ones who had it come back. I'm a little concerned as to where the abnormal cells are and if they are in the same place because they could be showing up on the surface but might not be detected deeper in the cervix.

Has anyone else had the pre-cancerous cells come back and have to go through this all over again?

Hpv And Pre Cancerous Cells Coming Back!!
Hiya halo611!
I had an abnormal pap back when I was 23...I'm now 32...When they did the coposcopy and biopsy, it was discovered that I had 5 areas of dysplasia(pre cancerous cells), on my cervix...3 out of the 5 were in the acute phase, so I too had the leep!! None of which was anything I want to go through again!! Crying or Very sad at the time noone said I had hpv....I've also had my tubes tied about 6 years ago, and ever since my periods have gotten much more painful...Debilitating!!!....And very clotty...Now, about 4 weeks ago I had a pap, and during the manual exam, the doc. Pushed on something that hurt...Said he suspected a fibroid tumor on my uterus...Sent me for an ultrasound the next day. When he got the results back from that he said everything looked fine, except for a tiny cyst on one of my ovaries...Then he got my pap results back....Said my cervix was quite irritated, and that I have hpv...Suggested another colp, biopsy, and possible leep! Crying or Very sad with all this crap going on, I asked about just having a complete hyst, and taking the ovary with the cyst...He said I was definately a candidate....Do you think I had the hpv to begin with and that's what caused the original pre cancerous cells to develope?? That's my thought now! My poor husband felt so bad cause he thought that he may have had it and not known about it and gave it to me....I totally don't think so at this point! I'm now thinking that I had it all these years and it caused the cells to grow again........Does that make sense? I'm so glad that i've found your post! Finally someone who's gone through similar stuff!! Smile

Return of Pre-cancer Cells
Hi, firstly I just wanted to say that I understand how unpleasant and scary all of this is.
I have been having abnormal pap reults for 5 years, started as hpv changes, and 18 months ago it turned into cin2. At this stage, I had a loop excision done, which showed only inflammatory changes, so we thought I had healed myself.
However, at the check up colp 6 months later, the cin2 was present again. So I have just had a cone biopsy taken, incase the problem was further up the neck of the cervix. The path results again showed inflammation only, and the doctors are unable to explain why this is happening, I have to wait a full 6 months before another pap to see what is happening.
The cone biopsy was done 2 weeks ago, it was fine to start with and now I have a nasty thrush, complete with lots of vaginal swelling and weeping sores, the doc I saw yesterday couldn't even get the speculum in me i'm that inflammed, he also thinks i'm brewing up an infection. I am so very tired of this 5 years of worry, each time we think it's fixed, it isn't and no-one seems to be able to explain it for me.
Hang in there, is all I can say, keep getting those check ups, do what needs to be done, and I wish you good luck and hope you finally get resolution to your problems.

hi ladies,
i also had a abnormal pap come back and I was diagnosed with hpv...
My doctor said that the pre-cancerous cells are at "low" and I am having a colposcopy on july 12th. I need to listen better, because I think she said that I also have warts on my cervix? During my colposcopy, will they scrape out the warts as well, if I have them?

And am I going to have hpv forever? Will I be able to have anymore kids?

Please help...

Okay ladies,
i am in nursing and know a lot about hpv and other various std's. Hpv is a a virus that cannot be cured. It is a viral infection that remains with you for life. The number one cause of cervical cancer and/or abnormal cervical cells is hpv. Sorry to say but hpv is an extremely common std, the most common viral one. While a giving a colposcopy they may freeze your warts off and or will use a certain type of ointment to rid them. They may go away on their own, they may come back after removal, or may never appear again. Even without visible warts it is possible to spread the infection. As far as having children in the future, there are good chances that they may decide to deliver via c-section. If there are any chances of warts being on or in your vaginal canal, if you deliver vaginally, your child could be born with warts present in his/her throat. Many women do deliver with hpv, but they mainly chose c-section as the delivery method.
I hope this shed a little light. Good luck in the future.

thank you natalie, that info was very helpful...
So if I do have warts on my cervix and they remove them and I continue to get normal paps, will I have any other complications or is warts and cervical cancer the only complications of hpv?

Your welcome Smile yes those are the only complications of hpv. Just make sure that you get a pap smear at least once a year. The most important thing is staying on top of your health as far as cervical cells go. Cervical cancer is 100% curable almost every time if caught early enough. Good luck in the future.

Hpv is the virus that causes warts right? I had abnormal paps come back but now they have been normal for a long time. Will you still need to have a c-section if you do just have hpv and no warts?

Yes hpv is the virus that causes genital warts. There are many different strains of hpv. Some display warts, some affect cervical cells, some do both. You can still deliver vaginally with hpv. They may check thoroughly for any warts on or around the vaginal canal and may see your previous history of any breakout of the virus. In your case, you most likely would be fine. If you have had no indication of warts in the past or present, you may not receive any in the future. You may have a strain of the virus that only affects your cervical cells, or you may simply have some abnormal cells not even necessarily caused by the virus.
Hope that answered some questions. Best of luck!

Help
I had cin3 cells removed. After 6 months they came back and
they were cin1.
They want to wait for them to get worse before removing them
again due to how quick they came back.
I and due to go to see if they are back at cin3.
What is more worring is that it has not stopped them before
so why will it cure them now.
I don't want a hystoestomy as I have not had kids yet and I would
love them.
Any thoughts!
