Q: Sugar Pills

so i have heard a variety of answers and i was wondering if you are still protected against pregnancy while taking the sugar pills in a 28 pill pack of birth control.
One friend told me use condoms you can get pregnant....another one told me you are still protected even on sugar pills!!?? ah

As long as you take your pills correctly all of the time you should be fine even when during your week of sugar pills. Remember just like other methods the pill is not 100% (only 99%) so adding a an extra layer of pretection i.e. condoms is always a good thing.

with ortho tri cyclen, do you have to take your sugar pills? i never take mine. am i risking pregnancy?

Neither do I. "Sugar" is the main ingredient in all placebo pills used during clinical studies. Placebos are medicines that don't do anything; they contain no active ingredients. The placebos (aka sugar pills) in a pack of birth control contain no horomones. Since the active ingredient is missing, you might as well not take them. They are there as reminders, so if you forget after one week that you should be starting a new pack, you have a reminder.

You are protected from pregnancy during this week by the very nature of your body's mechanics Smile
