Q: Back to School After Surgical Abortion - When?

Hi.

I am writing on behalf of an acquaintance of mine who will be having a suction-aspiration abortion in about a week and a half. She was wondering if it is possible to go back to school the next day, and if not, then when? I would've thought that it'd be better to rest for a few days, whereas I've heard other people say it is better to get motivated the next day, despite the possible bleeding. Since I haven't had a termination myself, I would like to ask the experts (Cari, other people who have aborted etc.) how long after her abortion will be the best time to go back to school? Also, please bear in mind she doesn't want her parents to know about this, and nor are they aware that she is pregnant now.

Thanks in advance.

The clinic will let her know what she should do afterwards. But generally I think it is alright to go to school/work the next day. It feels like a period the next day, a bit crampy. Her parents don't need to know.

Extremely eHealthy
I gave myself a day. The doctor said I could return to work the next day, but I was moderately crampy the next day and just too worried (what if I started bleeding really heavily?) so I gave myself a day of rest.

It's complicated if you're in school and live at home and don't want your parents to know. If this had been my situation, I would've been too worried they'd find out and I would have gone to school. I certainly felt well enough.

I hope it goes well for her.

Thank you very much for your help. I originally commented that I thought she should stay off for the next day (and obviously the Monday when she will be getting the termination), but to come to school if she feels well enough, however warned her about possible bleeding and groggy feeling. She had a medical abortion a year and a half ago without her parents' knowledge and I don't know how she went about that, but we'll see. Her main concern is having an abortion and has said that a lot of stress will be relieved, since the pregnancy is worrying her. Only a few days ago she argued with her boyfriend and they split up, and the reason she wants to conceal her pregnancy from her parents is that her relationship with them has only recently got back on track.

Thanks guys.

Kypros.
