Another Anybody Have This Happen Post.

One of the symptoms I have which is one of my worst is this.

Sometimes when I eat, within 10-15 mins, even before i finish the meal I get extremely spaced out, confused, dizzy, almost drunk like, headache and get very tired, like totally wiped out. If i am out with friends someone will always notice because I totally drop out of any conversations and just stare or look around or put my head down and close my eyes for a few a while and say I'm just real tired

This happened 2 days ago. I went to Eat-N-Park and ordered a bowl of Chili and onion rings with water to drink. I know the onion rings have some breading but I mean the reaction seems like it was pretty drastic compared to the 6 onion rings I ate. The chili had lots of beans and meat and other stuff so it seems strange to get such a strong reaction like that.

I believe it it somehow related to an extremely sharp rise in blood sugar.
It sometimes even happens on a low carb meal but usually not as bad which seems to sort of confirm my suspicions. Today I had some excellent chicken breast with a very small amount of BBQ sauce (1 table spoon had 1g of sugars acording to label) and about 12 yummy brussle sprouts. I still got a little bit spacey but nowhere near like the other day.

I foud a site about something called Dumping Syndrome and it didn't match my symptoms exactly because usually those people also get nausea or abdominal pain too, I don't.

I'm at a loss because I can't figure out how my sugar could rise that much that quick.

BTW- my favorite snack and what I eat 30min before bed is usually 1 slice of 100% stone ground whole wheat bread and a handfull of mixed nuts. Oddly i seem to get none (that I notice) of the spacey, dizzy, tired feeling from that. WHY?

Hi,

I've found from experience that my blood sugar actually drops when I start eating. It takes some time before it starts climbing. Your symptoms sound like a hypoglycemia attack. I've used a glucose monitor to confirm the drop. When I start eating, I feel worse for a while then I start feeling better. This doesn't happen at every meal or snack but it occurs especially when I my blood sugar gets lower than usual for some reason.

All I can say is that it helps to eat frequently and keeps the carbs somewhat lower. Of course, eat healthy too.

Yeah, wow, you're eating really bad. Let me explain what has happened. First off, your system is a wreck, so quick drops are going to happen.

1. What you ate there is not strange to cause a reaction, because they have sugar in them. Ask them for an ingredients list if you don't believe me, trust me they do because I made the same mistake once.

2. BBQ sauce also has sugar in it, and eating a lower amount while eating a decent serving of vegetables explains why you didn't feel as bad. You will still get reactions regardless of what you eat until your body starts to adjust, which will take awhile.

3. Dumping syndrome is rare, you don't have it. It sometimes occurs in cases of intestinal surgery, but otherwise there's like a 0.0001% chance you could have it.

4. I'm not sure why you're surprised you didn't get a reaction when eating that 100% whole grain meal there, it sounds like you have a fairly easy case to treat as long as you eat right. Why the confusion?
