Lung Lobe Removed Due to Pneumonia Posted: 02-13-04 14:55pm
Day 1 - I was spitting up green and yellow
with some brick colored blood. I had no
fever.
Day 3 - I went to my doctor and he sent me
for a chest x-ray.
Day 5 - the chest x-ray came back positive
for something in upper right lobe of lung
and I was sent for a ct scan of chest.
Day 7 - my doctor indicated that ct scan
showed something positive also in upper
right lobe of lung. I elected to see a
thorasic surgeon (my 1st mistake) in
houston.
Day 9 - I brought my chest x-ray and ct
scan to houston. By day 9, my chest had
cleared up, hardly spitting up green or
yellow, and no blood - I had taken some
antihistamines. The surgeon said this
must come out and scheduled surgery for
removal of my upper right lobe of my lung
on day 11 even though my chest had cleared
up quite a bit.
Day 11 - my upper lobe of right lung was
removed - patholgy report indicated
bronchioloalveolar carcinoma then changed
to "severe acute and organizing pneumonia
with abcess formation"
q: did I loose the upper lobe of my lung
for nothing, should I have been treated
with antibiotics 1st, maybe a broncoscopy,
I am really short of breath now. The
doctor said I would not miss it the upper
lobe. That is not the case so far.
Thanks, bill

Loss of Lobe Posted: 12-01-04 07:21am
Hi bill,
sorry to hear about your condition. I had
my upper right lobe removed in aug 2004.
I got to agree with you. It is alot
tuffer to breath now. Seems like i'm
always fighting for breath. When I cough
it still hurts my chest. When I yawn it
seems like I can not get enough air in my
lungs to have a "complete full yawn". It
is like it just quits and I have to keep
doing. I hope you are recovered better
now. Let me know so I can guess what to
expect.
