I am 37 and have recently been diagnosed with a slipped capital femoral epiphysis. I was born with my hip out of place and it wasn't diagnosed until I was old enough to start walking. I then had surgery, was placed in a cast and then a brace. I started walking when I was 3. That doctor at the time never told my mother the long term effects. I saw a doctor when I was in my teens because of hip pain, thigh pain and knee pain who told me that i just had one leg shorter, gave me a lift for my shoe. He told me I had some arthritis in my hip and low back and that I would eventually have to have a hip replacement. That was all that was said. I treated with this doctor for a while and eventually he said there wasn't anything he could do other than prescribe me Anaprox for the arthritis. When I was pregnant in '92, I returned to that doctor to make sure that my hip would be okay for natural child birth. He told me it would be fine and laughed it off. A few months ago I went to a doctor with muscle spasms in my back, hip, thigh, knee and severe hip pain. My hip would lock up on me. I was then sent for x-rays which revealed a moderate slipped capital femoral epiphysis. I had never been told I had this problem. My doctor has tried over the last 3 months to get me in to see a specialist. No one will see me because I don't have any insurance. I have gained a lot of weight because I can't be as active as I used to be. I really need some advice on some exercises that can be done to help me lose the weight as well as some advice on my treatment options.
