3rd time is a charm?
Yea, and it was as if it happened overnight.

The first time I was diagnosed with Ringworm. I went to a Emergency Clinic instead of seeing my doctor.
My hereld patch was on my back, around my bra line, but i had other bumps/patches all over my chest, back, stomach, a few on upper arms, and a few on my thighs.
I was given grisofulven and it did not help.
When I went to my Doctor she told me it was PR.
The second time was just a blip.. I felt under the weather for a few days, mostly a sore throat. Then the Hereld Patch appeared and a few bumps and it was gone as quick as it came.
About a week ago I now have #3. This time I felt sick again, the same sore throat. Within a day or two, before I even noticed the Hereld patch on my upper arm, I was covered in bumps.
I am also a firm believer that STRESS plays a huge role in outbreaks.
My Mom was just diagnosed with Cancer and started chemo/radiation last week. I think the stress of everything is definetly catching up to me.
As hard as it may be, try to keep stress down, and keep yourself healthy.
Just like I have to tell myself,
It will go away.

3 times
The first time was in 2004, I got the weird herald patch on my abdomen and then allthe little red patches all ver my trunk chest and arms no itch. This held on for a very long time. I went to the hot springs for a few hours and the rash was literally gone by the time I got home. Then in 2008 I got what seemed to be a large herald patch on my butt cheek but nothing else and it hung around for a long time as well. Now March 2009 I have a herald patch on my side and all the little patches again but not as bad as the first time. I just got back from the Doc's and he yold me how rare it is to ever get it a second time but I see now that this is not the case. I do feel a little worried because it is terrible looking and I just can't figure out what the hell it is and WHY I keep getting it.

I am 28 years old, married and a mother of a two year old daughter. I know this seems absolutely terrible however atleast it is not permanent or life threatening. Try your best not to focus on the problem, it will only magnify it. Try to stay positive and focus on the solution! Here are some helpful tips- Drink 8 glasses of water a day and add organic apple cider vinegar, soak in a cool bath with celtic sea salt, lay in the sun, take vitamin E and garlic tablets, eat as healthy as possible, stay cool and wear very light or minimal clothing. You can find all of this stuf at a health food store. It is not very expensive. I will be praying for you all! Remember -This to shall pass! Thanks and try your best to have a nice day!

I'm currently having outbreak number three in the course of a year... kinda mad that its during the summer though. stress seems to be related in some way shape or form, but Not definitly. The docs keep saying that twice is rare and 3 times im a freak, so you can imagine how happy I was to hear about others havign it multiple times... although i was hopeing that this MUST be the last time... they seem to get less and less each time... first time i had about 1000 spots from my temples to my knees, was derm cut two off and had a look, it was PR. lasted about 3 montsh and was itchhhyyy. Second time I only had about 500 from shoulders to knees, lasted about 2 1/5 months, but itched wayyyy more. I foudn tanning helped a little but not alot... the Mothership has landed on my shoulder this time and isnt as intense as the last two times.... was htinkin maybe it was just seomthgin else, but got up and the spotting has begun today Sad heres to hopeing.... I wish they're find a cause for it..... sooo annoying.. makes me feel like i got the plague or soemthing Sad

second bout of PR
im on my second bout of PR, i had it in 2002 and now in 2009, I dont remember much about the last bout other then intense itching and the rash. This time it started out on my elbows and looked like exsema, im thinking there were two herald patches?? Cause the rest of it is spreading and having alot of patches, with more to come, this is only the end of week one with this bout...sigh!! My doc said that the SI injections i had ((steriod injection)) for arthritis could have triggerred it or the stress level i was under. Ive been tanning once every 2 days the past few days and hope that this will help but the extremem itching is driving me bonkers and soo tired. I cant take the antihistimines cause they knock me out bad, and im so groggy the next day..this time my face is super itchy too all over but no spots yet..please lord spare my face, LOL.

I had my first round with this horrible thing last April. I went to the doctor because I had a cold and the spots had spread around my stomach, back, and a little on my arms. He gave me prednisone and it cleared it up quickly! Well, its a year later and a couple weeks ago I had the WORST sore throat. Sure enough, my worst fear occured..a spot appeared on my thigh. I now have them on my stomach and some on my legs! weird! Tomorrow I am going back to the Dr. to get more prednisone...I feel for y'all..we're in it together!!!

Second time : ( I was trying to convince myself that it was something different because my doctor had said it only happens once and here I am with this again. Both times I've been pretty stressed before the herald patch appears. Doctor told me after you get the virus it stays in your body and when your body defenses go down because of your stress chances are that virus starts taking over your body. I've had it for more than 3 months now, it started with herald patch on my chest which lasted several weeks until the rash developed. This second time itches like hell, I don't remember this thing itching so much during my first time, it's driving me crazy. I've been patiently waiting for it to go away but after 3 months I really feel it's just getting worse so I went to the doctor and she prescribed antibiotic and a strong steroid topic cream, I just couldn't wait any longer... first time it went away pretty fast with the antibiotics so I can't wait to start taking this medicine and clear this uncomfortable rash. I will also try tanning this time.

Good luck to you all! hopefully we won't be visiting this forum ever again!

It appears I may be on my second go round this year. The herald patch has popped up in almost exactly the same place as the first time. I had a sore throat and minor fatigue just before the first break out. Now I have a new position at work, conflict with a coworker, a new relationship, a new diet and rigorous exercise program, and have been fighting off illness with coworkers hacking and coughing all around me. I had a bit of a sore throat and a fatigue about a week ago and voila, a herald patch on my right breast just like last time. Originally got in mid June. The first go round, I was prescribed lotrisone cream which lasted about 4 days and did nothing. I got on line and searched around and ended up at the tanning parlor. I am olive skinned and never have felt the need to go tanning or spend much time in the sun, but I tell you after 4 sessions of 7-9 minutes in my birthday suit, the rash was nearly gone. Each time I tanned, it looked worse for about 24 hours, but then would notice large areas of cleared skin. I had it from my chest down both arms, legs, and abdomen-not so much on my back. I would highly recommend the tanning booth.
So far the spots are only on my breasts and bra line, but I have bought a month of tanning. Crossing my fingers here.

Pityriasis Rosea 2nd time
This is my second time with PR. Had my first 10 years ago. This time is not as severe and is healing up much faster. However, I never had the severe itching (itching was mild) or any other symptoms besides the rash with either of my occurances. I didn't think you were suppose to be able to get it more than once! After reading the posts, I started thinking that maybe this is brought on by stress and maybe in some of us our stress manifests itself with PR. My last go around 10 years ago was right after I was told that my husband and I were infertile (very, very stressful!). And this time I have a teenage neice who moved in a couple months ago and is causing quite a bit of stress in our home. The doctors don't really know what the cause is. It "may" be a virus?? Also, wonder if those that have it on thier face if it really is PR. BTW, stressed out for nothing the first time with PR. Sometimes docs don't know what they are talking about... I now have two beautiful boys (ages 9 & 5). Smile

Three Time For Me
This is my third time with the awful petarasis rosea. The first time was about 5 years ago and it was on my stomach. The second time was 2 months ago and it was all over my breasts and now its back again. Its on my breasts, neck and armpits. Everyone thinks its crazy that I got it three times when once is the average. It sucks and there is nothing that really helps the process. I hope the third times the charm.

PR (again!)
This is the second time that i have PR. 1st Time was 3 years ago at xmas following the stress of a relative dying. This time it could be put down to stress at work. However it is not as itchy this time and the Herald patch has appeared on the inside of my arm instead of on my back. The patches are also smaller but I have a lot more of them this time. Felt run down and had a cold/sore throat about 6 weeks ago (same as the last time). Considering going to the doctor again but seems a bit pointless if there is no cure. I have also read online that it is only supposed to occur once - obviously we are the lucky chosen few!!

I am a female in my late 20's and I am now suffering from my 4th "episode" of Pityriasis Rosea. I am sad to find it keeps coming back, this time being the worst and most wide spread. It is all over my abdomen, back, arms, legs, butt, and groin. The herald patch is always on my stomach. I am currently going to try sun/tanning to clear this up. Stress from job hunting, stress from the appearance of the rash, and anxiety are probably not helping. I feel like stress makes it worse, but how can I feel less stressed while anxiously working to figure this out. I am very thankful that this is not something that will cause severe illness or death, but I really wish I could learn more about it so that I could do whatever needs to be done to help it. I am posting my case to get the word out that this can reoccur and others are not alone. Thanks to everyone else for sharing there cases and remedies.

Pityriasis Rosea episode that lasted three years
I had a case of Pityriasis Rosea that started with a herald patch in the center of my abdomen in August 2006, spread across my stomach to my back, and finally disappeared completely in October 2009. So this one episode lasted over three years! Last month (February 2010) I just noticed that a few small spots have returned in the same area of my abdomen that the first herald patch was last time. I'm so frustrated!
Has anyone else had an episode that lasted three years? My doctor said that I definitely had Pityriasis Rosea. Thankfully my rash doesn't itch much, but it is unsightly.

I had this for about 6 weeks during the winter. Went on a vacation, thought maybe it was bed bugs. Then was told scabies, but medicine did nothing. Then given a steroid shot, which did nothing. I had SEVERE itching and dryness. Completely uncomfortable. Also very, very tired.Nothing on my face, but all over arms, legs, chest, stomach, back, and neck. It all went away, I haven't seen a herald patch for second time, but its now been about 3 or 4 months since it went away and I saw what I thought was acne on my shoulder. Turns out after scrubbing it, it looks just like what the PR lesions looked like before. I'm terrified that I have it again. Staying out of hot water and wearing loose clothing helped me a little bit. I'm praying I don't have this again. I wish they would research and find a cure for it. Awful to live with.

pityraisis rosea again!
jennierose, yes I had it for about three years and was so relieved when it finally went away but alas here it is again and I am not happy about it. I wish I had the money I wasted trying to get rid of this thing. I thought it was ringworm forever and finally lookled up skin diseases on the web and found out what this really is. I'm going to try what tamar77 suggested above and see if I can get rid of this stupid ugly thing that makes me feel like a freak!

pityriasis
Hi there,

i now shorten the disease name to ''pity'' cause thats how i feel at the moment. I''m having my first bout of Pityriasis - this disease i never knew existed until today. I woke up 3 mornings ago and noticed this oval shaped patch under my right boob. firstly i thought it was from sweating in the gym and thought i was not drying under my boobs properly but then this morning i went to the dr as 3 other smaller patches appeared. i have never had as much as a teenage spot up to now and im really upset to think this is going spread all over my trunk and may last up to 6 weeks. i notice a couple of you mentioned having a sore throat and thats what i had last week so im sure there has to be some connection to the immune system been at rock bottom. l ''m going to try 3000mg of vit C daily to build up my immune system and i will keep u posted on results of this experiment. watch this space.

pity.

How''s that vitamin C working for you Pity? I have started drinking the raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar in water and started to see clearing but it was taking too long so I started taking two tablespoon fulls several times a day straight out of the bottle and then chased it with water about 3 days ago. Now the clearing is much more obvious, so I think that is working more effectively. I just hold my nose and shove the spoon in my mouth and swallow. lol!
