I am in the middle of my second (according
to my doctor) occurrance of "christmas
tree rash." I am told that only 2% of the
population get this nuissance a second
time (if at all). I find myself
scratching until I bleed despite suggested
itch remedies... sun exposure isn't
helping, and my first occurrance lasted
over four months! I am losing it over
this ridiculous so-called "virus" that is
destroying my ability to show any skin
aside from my face, hands, and feet
(although my hair is coming out in a few
places where I have patches this time --
completely different from my first
occurrance).
Does anybody have any experience or
feedback regarding this awful affliction?

Yes I am also one of those unlucky ones
that also have had this twice. It seems
like such a long time ago now. I was
advised to keep cool, take the
anti-histamines, use oilatum or hydramol
in a cool bath and avoid the sun.
Loose clothing also helped as did washing
my hair in T-Gel shampoo.
I was advised to keep out of the sun,
quite difficult considering that I was
going to spain on holiday but I went
anyway. I hit the beach in my bikini, I
did not care what anybody thought they did
not have to look at me. I went for a swim
in the sea, sunbathed for a few days and
the rash dried up and peeled off it was
fantastic so its a combination of salt
water, and sun. Thats my best advise to
get rid of this. Don't forget to bath in
the oilatum or hydramol afterwards though.
(Don't use sunscreen.)

Thank you for the suggestions.
I am not familiar with oilatum or
hydramol... what are they made out of? I
would like to give them a try.
I have been taking salt baths as I did the
first go around with this yuck. Perhaps I
will try a highter concentration of salt
and more frequency. I feel as though the
itching gets worse the more I perspire and
staying very clean makes me at least
slightly more comfortable.

Oilatum and Hydramol are oily bath soaks
ask your Dr to prescribe a soak that you
put in the bath.

This is my first time with this awful
rash!! I hope it will be my last!! Did i
just read that someone had this "crap" for
FOUR MONTHS?? I have only had it for
about 2 weeks and I LOOK AWFUL. The
burning is terrible and the Dr. gave me
some type of topical lotion that DID NOT
HELP. It was okay for the big spots, but
now my body is COVERED with a fine rash of
some sort. Is it suppose to look like
this? I'm going back to the Dr. today
because he needs to give me something else
to help dry this up! I own a day care and
my children look at me everyday and ask
Miss Tammi is your face STILL yucky?

I am so sorry that they are on your face!
I have them all over my neck, scalp,
torso, arms, and even a few on each leg.
I am sorry to say that if you really do
have Pityriasis Rosea then don't expect to
get relief any time soon. There seems to
be very little available to help speed up
the process. My first ocurrance lasted
four months and this round is already well
into month two. I don't mean to
discourage you... I just know that I have
had to remind myself over and over that
each new patch of rashes will EVENTUALLY
go away -- even if it seems like I will
have this itchy problem forever.
Anti-histamines have actually been helping
me quite a bit... I can tell that I am
more itchy as soon as they wear off
between doses. All of the creams and
ointments I have tried (Rx and OTC) have
done no good. I am actually convinced
they they make it worse since this rash
seems to be less severe each time I try
and dry it up... the less
lotions/soaps/creams the better. I have
continued tanning and strong salt baths
which seem helpful until I sweat even a
little bit.
IT WILL GO AWAY!!! In time. This thing is
a cruel test of patience and
self-discipline (to keep from scratching)!

My 7 year old daughter had a cold at
Christmas then a suspicious looking spot
appeared on her leg that looked like a
'midgy' bite. It got bigger over the
course of 3 - 4 days (!) so I tried
treating it with antiseptic but it didn't
go away. Her cold cleared after a week but
then a random looking rash followed but
only on her chest, stomach and back. She
felt itchy but was really good and rubbed
her skin over her clothes so she would not
make herself sore. I bathed her daily
without any treatments, soaps or bubbles
in the bath and she used a separate towel.
We went to the docs today as it was still
present after 7 days but had not got any
worse or showed any signs of clearing. The
doc diagnosed pityriasis rosea. It is not
contagiuos. Panic over. Bathing
daily is apparently good as it not only
encourages the 'spots' to dry up but keeps
the body cool too and less itchy. The
doctor said it is best to avoid any
treatments in the bath and if itching
becomes really bad to use calomine lotion
to help the drying/ healing. Sounds
logical. I see that nobody has mentioned
it already. It's dead cheap to buy 'over
the counter' and could be a simple
solution to a lot of unwanted itching and
a faster solution to the healing process.
I hope this helps. Good luck to you all.

I also had pityriasis rosea two months ago
it lasted for about 2 weeks, but i didn't
experience any terrible itching. BUT last
week i thought a bug bit me on my leg but
it turns out its another patch!!! The itch
isn't bad at all i just can't stand to
look at rash! Those of you who had it for
a second time, did you get it again
because I don't think i can take having
this again!

Can anybody beat getting Pityriasis Rosea
4 times? I had it for the first time
between the ages 18 and 21 (cant remember
the exact age now,) then I got it at 30,
33 and now for the fourth time at 38. My
Herald patch has just started to fade and
the rash is starting to come out. I feel
like a old hand at it now. Was just doing
some surfing trying to find people who
have had it more than once. I don't get
itching with mine and so far have not had
it on my face, each night I look for new
dots and hope they dont come on my face or
neck, otherwise I will have to get out the
scarves and high necked shirts.

hi Posted: 04-30-08 11:46am
iv had the rash 4 times now aswell,
this time its lasted about 6 months and it
covers me from my navel to the base of my
neck im beginning to think that my local
gp is a quack because of this as he has
given me pills the first 3 times to clear
it up only to come back a week after the
treatment and then being offered a cream
this time round which has to my
recollection made it worse!
has anyone out there got any idea of how
to get rid of it?

Tanning worked for me! Posted: 06-19-08 01:14am
I had PR for ten days before I found out
what it really was at an unrelated
doctor's appointment (my gynocologist
recognized it). I did everything I could,
but nothing helped until I went tanning.
I had never tanned before but was
desperate. After reading about another PR
victim's success with tanning, I tried it!
It took just three sessions and it cured
my three weeks worth of spots. I only
went in for eight minutes each tim (fair
skin) and never looked tan, but it worked
like a charm!
