I bought one for a friends baby shower, but was wondering if any of you ladies have tried this product. It seems pretty cool, but a little too good to be true.

I got one at my baby shower. but my daughter wont take a paci. but the Dr says not to trust it and go rectal. I would buy her a good rectal thermometer the one that widens so you know not to stick it to far.

i was told to do it rectally because it's the most accurate. i only do that when i really think he's sick, otherwise i use the ear kind.

me too. that is how i take it. Amelia had a 103 last night rectally and it wouldn't even get above 96 on the arm pit one and the ear one was 102.3. I took her to the hospital last night and they took it and it was 104 at this point.

Oh no!! She must be teething. Oni's Dr. said they can get a temp of 102 or above rectally with teething.

But I'd take her too. Being that .r.s.v is in her system. medical answer that...don't risk it!!

I hope she feels better.

To the original poster...it's a cool gadget...but I'd stick with rectal.

yeah well as you read in my other post......it is .R.s.v. blech!!!!!!!!!!!!! i will stidk with rectal too. it was closest to the hospital's temp.

if the baby doesnt' take a soothie....then there isn't anypoint in getting it. it's won't work. I wouldnt' spend money on it unless you already know your baby will take a soothie....the same with the one that you can give your baby meds with. (amelia takes a soothie but she won't take the meds out of it....)

Thank you for all of your responces. Unfortunatly, I have already purchased it. Its cool though it was only like $9. But I will diffinately go buy her a rectal one as well. They are one of those things you can never have to much of. Especially, with little one's.

yeah we have one of those its sucks lol. It takes for-evvverrr for the temp to register and by then the kid gets sick of sucking on it cuzz its bulky. And it never registers the right temp. we have an infrared ear temp thing and its a peice of crap. We're gunna go buy one of those ones that you run across their forheads. Its like, 35$ at walmart.

The problem with ear thermometers is that it has to be *directly* on the ear drum. That's a scary thing, and will never do that to .oni.

I busted my ear drum in the 2nd grade...worst experience of my life!!

up the butt is the best way! Wink

I've heard ok things about the forehead roller one.

no, it needs to be firmly in the ear canal. nobody's eardrum is close enough to touch the thermometer.

the reason it's not very accurate with babies is because you can't really tell if you have it positioned properly. if i do it to myself i can feel that it's snugly in place, with finn i have to guess by sticking it in and down at an angle and then pulling his ear up (that's how the doctor told me to do it). i've gotten pretty good at it but i don't trust that's it 100%. if it's close to normal i figure he's fine but if it seems off i'll break out the rectal thermometer.

I would never stick anything smaller than my elbow into my child's ear. Or mine.

And no, I don't clean her ears with any type of q-tip. Baby type or not. Wax has enough sebum to come out on its own. (unless she's like me and her wax contains no sebum, but that hasn't been the case yet.)

I refuse to be the reason my child has ear problems.

what? using the ear thermometer? i think i described it rougher than it is, i just stick it in his ear and pull the top up. it doesn't bother him. also, we have a really good one so it only takes about 2 seconds for the whole process.

i'm scarred for life from the first time i took his temp rectally. it was during the time he was really sick and throwing up all night, well the thermometer must have stimulated something because he pooped the thermometer right out and was spraying green water everywhere. it was horrible.

i'm so glad i could share that with you all.

I've had ear problems since I was a week old.

I had tubes in my ears, and my adenoids & tonsils taken out. I don't know how my mom did it...I would freak if my newborn had to have a surgery!!!

But since I busted my ear drum, it's been hell.

I'm supposed to get my ears cleaned out (due to my wax not having sebum, blah blah) every 6 months. it's been 2 years Shocked . LIterally, I read lips when speaking one on one.

I cringe when they clean them. They take a huge syringe of warm water and squirt it hard in my ear. They do it about 6 times in each ear. And get about 4 pea sized rocks from my ear canal.

I refuse to have .oni go through that. She's yet to even have an ear infection. I plan on keeping it that way.

i wonder if my brother has the same problem. his ears are so disgusting (like i can see the wax just sticking to the inside of the canal) and he goes to get his cleaned out too.

i, on the other hand, have practically no wax. that could be because i compulsively clean them after every shower. i can't stand the feeling of water in my ears so the first thing i do when i step out of the shower is break out the q-tips.

i had major ear problems when i was little too. i had infections *constantly* and i remember my mom having to put drops in my ears all the time and i hated it so much i cried. surprisingly, i never had tubes but both my brothers did.
