General Anxiety Disorder...help ?
Posted: 03-05-07 22:39pm

My daughter was told that she has GAD. She has to take 2 to 3, sometimes 4 clonzepams (spelling) a day to help her function.

Are there any other meds that can help this condition that is not addicting?
I've heard some things about Lexapro, would that help?

She is 19. Thyroid, blood work is fine.

I have slight anxiety problems, but hers are pretty elevated. She is like being on a roller coaster.....and for everyone else, that isn't easy either.
I hate to see that she has to go through this.

Any thoughts, ideas, or med exp that i mentioned above?

Thank you,
Dawn

Dependency Vs. Addiction

Dawn,

The drug she is taking, is it helping her? If so, don't mess with it! It is very difficult to find a drug that works for someone. Klonopin (clonozapam) is one of the best out there, so don't change a thing. Lexapro and other SSRI's have all kinds of side effects that come with them.

Klonopin is a benzodiazepene whic is similar to Xanax, Ativan, and Vallium. None of these drugs are addictive, but can cause dependency. If your daughter needs to stop taking it at any time then make sure she gradually decreases over time, but if she is feeling better consider yourself one of the lucky few.

If you notice her taking more and more then you need to put stop to it and regulate her pills as well as consult your doctor. How many mgs per day is your daughter on?

I hope all is well,
OE
