My gp tells me that the normal range for
alkaline phosphotase level is between 33
and 99 -- or thereabouts. I was been
diagnosed with paget's disease of bone
about 5 1/2 years ago. My past two
readings for ap have been 177. My
endocrinologist told me five years ago
that no treatment is necessary until the
disease becomes symptomatic. To date, I
have not suffered any effects -- no pain
-- but I wonder if a consistent reading of
177 deserves attention of some kind before
the disease becomes symptomatic. Is my
doctor correct to let sleeping dogs lie or
should I advocate for some proactive
treatment?
