Have you asked your doctor on this?...I don't think the bleeding should be there, but I am not a doctor/nurse...If you wanted to you can ask the doctor here...You can do this at the top of the page...It says Ask The Doctor...

I was told by my Doc. there was a slight chace I would continue to get mini periods after my partial hysterectomy. SURE ENOUGH~ I'm one who has one monthly. I still get cramps too..but at least the bleeding is VERY light- only need ultra thin liner for 2 days..

Hi mpure9 and welcome to ehealth...When I had mine out, which was complete with uterus, ovaries, cervix and fibroids, as well as abdominal, I bled for a few weeks...Looking back maybe four...When I went in for my 6 weeks exam, I had stopped...About three months later I had an episode where I bled...Scared the devil out of me...I immediately went to Urgent Care...The OB-GYN said that I looked OK, but to check with my own doctor if this continued...I still was not comfortable with this and made an appointment with him...At that time he cauterized my new artificial cervix, or whatever it was that they had made...He said I had a raw area and he closed it up...This was the extent of my bleeding...Oh, and may I add that this is a painless procedure...

Bleeding really isn't normal, yet some women have this problem...If you have this for an extended period, have it checked out...However, give yourself enough time after your surgery for the wound to heal....Take it easy and don't rush it...Wait a long enough time before you begin sexual relations...I think they say 6 weeks.....Personally, I think you will be one happy woman...I sure have been...

Good luck,
Caroline

I agree - it's hard to find any information on bleeding after a LSH. I've been bleeding off and on for a year and went to my OB\Gyn yesterday. I also have some upper abdominal pain but the ultrasound didn't show anything going on in my gall bladder, liver, etc. So I'm not sure what's up with that.

So, I'm waiting to see what my labs (hormone, CBC and pap smear) show. If that's all clear, he's taking my cervix in two weeks. I can't find any information on what a removal of just the cervix entails. Laproscopic? The whole kitten kaboodle open surgery? I know this is an unusual condition but you'd think there'd be more out there.

Glad you guys are here. Anyone know any info?

I had a partial hysterectomy in March 09 and started my period on schedule 2 weeks after surgery! It was just spotting though. However, now after 5 months it's a little bit more than spotting and sometimes have mini-clots(having to wear a tampon for 2 days) and more like 5 days long! Plus, cramps, bloating, headaches, etc. I also have horrible ovulation cramps too! The only thing that has changed for me is the fact that I don't have the heavy periods caused from fibroids..all the symptoms are the same. I was hoping that if I had surgery that I wouldn't have to worry about this any more. I guess I was wrong. It is a relief to hear that other women are going through the same..thanks for sharing.

bleeding after a hysterectomy
I read these posts yesterday because I was having bleeding also. My OB/GYN said it is NEVER NORMAL to have bleeding from that area after ANY TYPE of hysterectomy! He told me to come in immediately. He ruled out any pre cancerous conditions, but said it could be endometriosis or it could just be a grainy tissue that is flaking off. Either way any bleeding needs to be looked at. He also said that if these are doctors telling you it's normal to be bleeding or having a period after a hysterectomy you need to be seeing about getting a different doctor.

I agree with you deborahreading, if you have a hysterectomy there is no way you should be bleeding as though you still have a period. I am really shocked by how many women are suffering from this. My mother and my aunt has had the same kinds of hysterectomy and they have never had any bleeding. I think it may depend on your doctor and what they do. I had a little spotting last night but nothing when I urinate or wipe so who knows what that is, I just hope I don't get what all these women seem to have. It seems totally outrageous that doctors are saying that it is normal. I can see if something else is happening inside of you but not to say that after a hysterectomy you can expect to get a period still.

Hysterectomy
I am 43. Just had a sub total hysterectomy 2-1/2 weeks ago removing cervix as well. 2 Top surgeons in Toornto did it all laprascopically so I am and have been up and about with very little discomfort until yesterday when it seems I am suffering with cramps and some light spotting. I have an appointment on Monday with surgeon to remove internal stitches and checkup so we'll see what she says. She did warn that sometimes a hysterectomy will not entirely cure the menstrual pain as the pain can be caused by many different things. Obviously I am hoping this mini period is just my body TRYING to do what is has done for 30 years...cycle! But with any luck in the months to come it will realize the uterus is gone and give up Smile Will post again. thanks!

2dog, yes I remember my doctor telling me that if I had endometriosis then the operation will stop the bleeding but it will not stop the pain that I was having. I felt that if I went through the symptoms without the period then I was still to the good because the worst was the bleeding on top of feeling cramps and irritable.

I'm 39 and I had a partial hysterectomy in June 2009. I've had mini periods every month with accompanying breast pain and SEVERE slimy discharge around ovulation time. It's good to know I'm not alone and this is considered somewhat "normal".

Although it's totally annoying, it's still nothing like the HEAVY periods and EXTREME pain I had before surgery. I don't have a lick of pain now.

I already wear a panty liner due to slight bladder issues so it really isn't an issue.

Still bleeding after partial-hysterectomy
I am 39 years old. I've had a partial hysterectomy over a year ago, and I am still having monthly, "mini" periods! The doc told me that the bleeding is coming from my cervix. I've had several silver-nitrate treatments, but they did not work. I also have migraine headaches, that would last about 3 days, before these "periods" start. The mini periods would be spotting to slight bleeding. (More, during bowel movements). The next option I was told was to have my cervix removed. At this point, I do not want to have another surgery, so I guess I just have to deal. It really sucks... but it made me feel better that I am not the only one experiencing this.

i had a complete hysto 9-1/2 yrs ago and have had no trouble with severe pain or bleeding. i still have breast tenderness and phantom pain every now and then where my ovaries were. good luck to all who are experiencing problems. my gyno said that it is not normal to still bleed even after a partial. keep this going so all women will know that they are not alone with these issues.

feelingfree, yes I do get my breasts feeling kind of heavy and sore once in awhile like when I had the menses. That is nothing though, the most important thing is that I got rid of the menses. I think these forums are so good because you learn so much from them and you don't feel alone. I'm glad that I have read a couple of remarks that state that their doctor states it is abnormal to bleed after a hysterectomy whether full or partial, after reading all of these postings I thought I was losing my mind. smile. Good luck to all and hopefully you can get this cleared up. No woman should feel that although they have no pain it is ok to still bleed. It is however a relief I'm sure to see that you are not alone in what you are going through.

but they will not tell me what it is and will not check me. I know what blood is and now am wearing a pantie liner.I am making an appointment to be checked by another Dr. Thanks for the posts I did not know about the stuff left behind.
