Out of pure curiosity...how many men men are circumcised? I know it's a personal question, but this is an anonymous vote! Wink

I'm curious to see how popular circumcision is nowadays...I am sure other people are as well!

I was circumcised as a newborn. Until recently, I didn't know much better.. I knew there were cut people and intact people but didn't really know much about it. I personally think that is females are protected from mutilation of their genitals, that men should be too.

I personally would like to hang the person that said i should be cut (my parents) and the doctor that did it. Its a stupid way for them to make money by cutting off the sensitive/protective tissue on the penis.

I have spent countless hours researching the history of circumcision in America and there is not a single good reason for it. Doesn't help prevent STD. Other factors that go with it do. Like the frequency of condom use on intact vs cut males.

What do you females think about it?

as far as how popular it is.. This isn't the best place to find that statistic out. I would say that 50 - 60 percent of all newborns in America are still being cut, its down from near 80% in the late 80's where that was a sharp decline, mainly in western America.

Midwest states still have the highest rates for neonatal circumcision.

IMO, Hopefully one day it will either be illegal or just come to an end.

That's good question. I hate it because I feel as though something was taken from me, which could help me out now.

My penis functions 'normally' <- minus the protection of FS

I said it could help me out because until you have experienced the glands of the penis being covered you will never fully understand what the fs does. Many circumcised men dont get it, they are happy with their sex life and happy with how the penis look/functions and most dont realize the constant rubbing of the head of the penis on clothing like boxers or any other underwear.

Most of my days involve a lot of walking at the office. When the glands are exposed and rubbing OH my god, it hurts. When they are covered you dont have that..

Cutting off the foreskin is like removing the protective layer of the penis.

I also said i hate it because i feel asthough something was taken from me. Something That I want, something that I never would have given permission to be cut off. My theory is this.. If its not broken, dont fix it.

If i ever have a male child, I would leave that decision up to them.

Yes, I am circumcised. I would say that I'm happy about it, but I think that's strictly for aesthetic reasons. However, aesthetics are based on societal preferences so it has no reason in logic.

That being said, I agree with Spooled. Though it may not be as damaging as female genital mutilation is, it is still an mostly, unnecessary procedure and therefore most definitely mutilation. I don't hold ill will towards my parents or doctor though. Especially since they are just part of the system. People are not infallible and will make mistakes and the likelihood of mistakes increases when an entire society considers it normal.

If I have a son I will not have him circumcised. If a medical reason arises or he decides to do so, then that is when it will be done. The negatives of that are that he (depending on age) will remember the procedure, and can also remember having foreskin and may wish he still had it. However, not mutilating my son unnecessarily outweighs those possibilities.

Spooled, have you ever tried softer and/or more supportive underwear? I used to have some abrasive underwear that I noticed when doing exercises such as jumping jacks. I replaced those rather quickly as they were quite irritating. Feel the underwear before you buy it.

Secondly, by your anger I would assume you have researched it, but if not...do you know that there are ways to restore your foreskin? It could take years to complete the process, but it is possible. It's just skin and it can be stretched and multiplied, just like when people gain weight. It may not be exactly the same as there might be some frenulum snipping during circumcision, but it will still be natural skin covering your glans. If you haven't heard of it, do some research. There are several different products available to help with foreskin restoration, from tape to weights, etc. I couldn't tell you which one is best, so definitely do some research.

Although it does make me angry that it was done.. Its not something that i wont talk to my parents about I just wish that, as you said, they would not follow in the norms of society. I once asked my parents why it was done, the answer i got was because thats what society does.. That in itself is what made me mad.. there was not reason for it..no infections, not issues but simply just because. Im not a person who does things just because.. but thats me not them.

I have research the topic of restoration. Actually i am in the process. I know you wont get the real thing back, but you can get something that is close depending on how you were cut. If you have alot of inner skin you glands will still stay covered and by moist like it was intended to be. You also will not get the muscle band back, but with time the skin will stay in place on its own
