Q: Im Not Preaching But Yearly Exams Are Important.....

I've been looking through the posts on here and it appears to me that many women out there aren't getting their annual pap/exams done and it really scares me. I've heard every last excuse in the book for reasons not going (ie: im afraid, its uncomfortable, it hurts, no insurance, etc) but you don't know what scared and uncomfortable is until you end up with an std or god forbid cancer. It's a simple appointment that is done in a snap and I really wish everyone out there who is sexually active (especially) or over the age of 16 go in for your annual exams. This is how stds spread and are so common and it really is getting scary now a days. Not only for the fear of stds but cancer. Cervical cancer is becoming more and more common. I highly suggest every woman who hasn't yet gotten one go and get the Guardisil vaccination against the hpv that can cause cervical cancer. Most insurance companies do cover it and doctors reccomend it to women between the ages of 16-26. Again this wasn't to come at some of you and "preach".......just kind of bothered me at the amount of women I have spoken with on these forums who don't go in annually.

The hpv vaccine does not help women who have already been exposed to hpv.

I fully agree with you, people do need to go in annually and get their girly bits checked for scary things.

I have noticed this aswell...this is not good.I personally am at the doctor's office at the first sign of anything wrong, and I like to be up to date on my paps/swabs/and check-ups.I can certainly understand the fear that is sometimes associated with going to the doctor when you think something is wrong.Especially down there. Most diseases and conditions can be treated and cured very easily if cause in the early stages.

Idea I say we should have an annual Pap Smear Day!!!!! Laughing

The best way to remember all your yearly exams, etc. Is to schedule them on your birthday. Not to have the actual appointment on your birthday, but to schedule them around that time. So when your birthday comes, you will always think, "Have I taken care of myself this year?"

Great idea!! I found it very easy for me to remember because when I had my iud put in I got a card with it that states the date I had it inserted and checked thereafter. I keep it in my wallet and just this month pulled it out out of curiousity and noticed its been a year since its been checked (which gets done at my annuals) so it reminded me to schedule mine in march!

Righto!

God, pap-smears are so important! They are not scary, they are not normally painful, and you can get them done for free if you don't have money to pay!

There is no excuse ladies!

Are you 18 years old?

Or

Are you sexually active?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, then get yerself in for a pap smear!
