Ankle And Radiology Gobbledegook

Had a slip and fall in mid January, injuring my ankle. Six weeks in, and the ankle still hurts. Have had bone scan and MRI and I'm referred to Ortho. I can't get into Ortho until 3/19/07, and I don't understand the copy of the report I was given:

IMPRESSION
1. CONTUSION OF THE MEDIAL MALLEOLUS WITH SPRAIN AND POSSIBLE PARTIAL TEAR OF THE DELTOID LIGAMENT, SPECIFICALLY INVOLVING THE POSTERIOR TIBIOTALAR LIGAMENT.
2. FOCAL CONTUSION OF THE CENTRAL ASPECT OF THE DISTAL FIBULA AT THE INSERTION OF THE POSTERIOR TALOFIBULAR LIGAMENT CONSISTENT WITH A BONE CONTUSION AND POSTERIOR TIBIOTALAR LIGAMENT SPRAIN.
3. SMALL TIBIOTALAR JOINT EFFUSION.
4. SMALL CONTUSION OF THE POSTERIOR MALLEOLUS.
5. CHANGES CORRELATE QUITE WELL WITH THE INCREASED UPTAKE SHOWN ON RECENT BONE SCAN.

So. Here we are. I'm in between doctor visits, and I'm not clear what I've actually got going on here and what I should be doing or not doing. Ankle aches all the time, and God forbid I should step on a rock or off a step awkwardly!!

I'm not real pleased with my primary doc, and I don't see the Ortho for almost 3 more weeks. Any suggestions appreciated.

If you don't want to wait, go to the ER. Sounds like you may have a torn ligament. Good luck.
