Q: Using the Waster Dam During Root Canal

Do dentists have to use the water dam during root canal. I know it is because ofthe tiny instruments used and fear of their being sued, but I have anxiety attacks big time during this procedure with the water dam over my mouth. I feel like I am being smothered. Is there any dentist out there who will do this without the water dam?
