Hey! My name is Logan and I am a Pharmacy major at UNC-Chapel Hill. I am working on a project for my English class that entails joining a blog or forum and talking about experiences that we have with different social science issues. One issue was that of homeopathy or holistic medicine. I have read several forums and blogs completely bashing the idea of alternative forms of medication. I must say that I completely disagree with the idea that holistic medicine is not a valid practice but unfortunately I believe a lot of people in my field would disagree with me.
The reason I believe in the idea of alternative forms of medicine is because of my dad. My father was diagnosed many years ago with intestinal colitis and had to quit his job and go through surgery to remove the bad parts of his intestine. However, the surgery was not enough to rid him of all of the ailments and other problems that his colitis had caused. He heard about some of the new advancements that dentistry was coming up with and how several problems with your mouth could be linked with other problems in your body. I am not talking about how metals in your mouth affect your body because it is now a well known fact about how much trouble the metals that were once used in your mouth cause tons of problems. My dad decided to look into it and went to a holistic specialist about his mouth and they did a few x-rays and tests and found pockets of infection in his gum. He went in for surgery to clear out these pockets of infection and as a result his intestinal symptoms began to get better.
I don't know all of the details about the process but I have heard of how people with migraine problems, stomach ailments, and a wide array of other problems have been helped by getting metals removed from their mouths and infections that they were not aware of. Like I said, I don't know too much of the advancements in dentistry but I just though I would share how my father was helped by it when traditional medicines didn't work. It just amazes me how people will refuse to accept acupuncture and chiropractors as "real" forms of medicine when they show nothing but signs of helping the people that use them. Anyway, I would appreciate any replies. Any experiences you had yourself would be nice to so I could see what else is out there that is helping people that most people are unfamiliar with.
Regards,
Logan
