i am 21 years old and recently found someone who's actually worth giving up... a LOT... for, and we tried, but the truth is, it hurt way too bad, and though i wanted to keep trying, i couldn't because i was in too much pain. i know losing your virginity is supposed to hurt, but i felt like i was being torn in two! is there ANYTHING i can do to make this easier? i didn't wait this long for the right guy, just to leave things at that! please help.

No, losing your virginity is not supposed to hurt. Pain during sex is never supposed to happen. It happens a lot, but it almost always can be avoided if people just know a little bit about their body.

The number one cause of pain during sex is not enough lubrication. Many girls have sex without knowing when they are lubricated enough, without having enough foreplay, and without buying extra lubrication.

The second most common reason is being nervous and tense. Being tense makes your vagina tighten up. That can make penetration painful.

The third, and least common, reason that sex might hurt is various problems like infections. So if the pain persists even with adequate lubrication and when you are fully relaxed and comfortable, tell your ob-gyn about it.

its ok dont worry too much. i just lost my virginity a few months ago and yeah it hurt like heck the first couple of times. I geuss it was because i was nervouse that i wasnt experienced like him. i dunno. but the pain started going away after about the 3rd time and was completely gone after about 5 or 6 times.
ya just gotta suck it up and try to enjoy it. it helps to think about how much pleasure you're giving him. because since its your first time you're usually pretty tight down there and guys love it.
good luck.

thanks so much for your responses, i really appreciate it! i wasn't tense or nervous or anything, and i was definitely ready. what i've considered MIGHT be part of the problem is that maybe my hymen is too thick; i know some women have that problem and it has to be surgically removed, but then... if that's the case, why was it never a problem historically? LOL then again, considering how little women's health was considered historically, i guess we have an answer right there.
again, thanks for the responses. i'll definitely take them to heart!

It was as much a problem back then as it is now, I assue you ^_^ We just talk about it more now! Just like you said haha.

What you can try is slow stretching. See how many fingers you can comfortably slide inside, and begin gently holding it open. Do it in the shower or bath when you are relaxed, and there is no tenseness. This method could prove helpful enough to widen and loosen the hymen enough for sex. It doesn't have to break! My hymen was a string, so big open spaces, and no need to break it during sex. Lucky me! My first expereince wasn't painful at all.
