i had radiation done on a tumor on my spinalcord

in the c7 area. doc said that the beams were getting

some of my thyroid. will i end up getting thyroid cancer

down the road

donna28; highly unlikely. The worst thing that will happen is it affect the production of the hormones that it produces. Becoming hypothyroid.

My understandking is that it is only certain types of radiation that would cause thyroid cancer. So if it is affected it would just be in hormone production. But you should definitely get your thyroid function checked a couple of times over the next few months to see if it has been affected, and take the proper action if it has.

Donna, if it has affected the productivity in any way, your doctor can, if necessary, prescribe the proper meds to rectify the issue. Something that is regularly done. This will replace the hormones that are missing or are in excess. Just keep a good follow up with your doc and follow his advice.....
