I've been breastfeeding and it doesn't seem to be giving me any trouble but I'm afraid he isn't getting enough. He was down to 7lbs at his appt. yesterday (born at 7 lb 8 oz) and I also think he may be getting a little jaundiced. His eyes are looking a tad yellow to me, the dr. said he is fine but I'm still worried about it. So I was wondering if you guys thought maybe it would be best to pump for now to make sure he is actually getting enough? And if I pump about how many ounces should he be eating?

All babies lose weight after they're born. It's normal for a breastfed baby to not gain their birth weight back as quickly. Breastfeeding is tricky that way. You're never sure how much they're eating.

But if your doctor was at all concerned, he would tell you. Keep doing what you're doing - nursing him at your breast. If he's still hungry, he'll let you know! You're doing fine, hon. And I promise you, he's probably getting plenty!

Listen to your doctor. If this is his first appointment, it is very common for babies (especially breastfed babies!) to lose a little weight. Keep nursing. Nurse more, as a matter of fact. Every time baby nurses, you should drink a glass of water. Eat right. There is no need to pump.
