Painful sex (dyspareunia) can be due to several reasons:
1. Not enough sexual excitement in the woman causes the vagina to stay dry and, therefore, sex becomes painful;
2. Senile atrophy of the vaginal entrance;
3. Congenital malformations of the vagina;
4. Post-surgical adhesions and scars;
5. Post-infective adhesions and scars;
6. Big vaginal tumors;
7. Urethral disorders (infections and tumors);
8. Hemorrhoids and perianal fistulas;
9. Infections of the vagina and vulva;
10. Infections of the uterus, tubes and ovaries;
11. Retroversion of the uterus;
12. Endometriosis of the sacro-uteral ligament;
13. Inflammation or presence of large fecal masses in the rectum, and
14. Psycho-emotional reasons.
