Intestinal Disorders Answer A2402
Diverticulum is a weakness of the intestinal wall that forms an intestinal protrusion like a sack. Diverticulums can be located any place in the digestive system from the esophagus to the rectum. Intestinal waste can stagnate in the intestinal protrusions, or sacks, making them susceptible to inflammation. Inflammation (diverticulitis) is the most common complication in cases of chronic diverticulum. An inflamed diverticulum can cause abdominal pain.
Spicy food and alcohol are not recommended for this condition. Easily digestible food, however, is recommended for this condition.
