Q: Can I Have Children If I Have Emphysema?

Hi!

I am 27 and I have emphysema. I don't have any symptoms, yet... And I found out about it by accident after an x-ray that i've done for a medical paper. My doctor told me that I need a lung transplant if I want to have kids. I search for some information about this all over and I didn't fine anything.
What do you know about this?
Can I have children if I have emphysema?

Thank you,
dana

I think maybe you should get a second opinion, empysema doesn't normally show up on xrays untill its quite advanced. At your age it is highly unlikely to have the disease unless you have a rare inherited form of the disease (alpha1 deficiency). It would be a good idea to ask your doctor for spirometry which is a good test for lung function.
