Q: Hair growth on upper lip & depression
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 14th, 2007
When I was 12 years old I was put on Paxil for 3 years. During the time I was on them I experienced no sexual attraction or desire, and I still don't. The past year I've been having no interest or enjoyment in eating food. I also noticed about 6 months ago the hair on my upper lip is darker than it used to be. I was wondering could this be anything hormonal? I also have a lot of mental issues, and sometimes I don't take pleasure in any activities, could my lack of interest/enjoyment in sexual acts and food have anything to do with my mental state?
Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you.

General Q&A Answer A2385
Paxil (paroxetine) is an antidepressant from the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) prescribed for depression. Symptoms like yours (“no sexual attraction or desire”, “no interest or enjoyment in eating food”, “don't take pleasure in any activities”) could be due to a mental disorder like depression and could be exacerbated by smoking marijuana.
Hair growth on a woman’s face, arm pit and genital area can be due to the normal existence of small amounts of male hormones in a female’s body. To check, you might visit the prescribing doctor to describe your symptoms and seek a clear diagnosis and treatment alternatives.
