I've been on effexor xr for 14 months now. At first I was on a low dosage combined with either prozac, wellbrutin or lexapro. My current dosage at 150mg is able to control my anxiety very well (i have none!) but the depression remains the same. All of jan. I noticed I was emotionally numb, couldn't laugh or cry or smile...I felt like a robot. Now in feb. I'm extremely emotional, sobbing, getting nervous in a flash, so low losing my appetite and desire to live. What's going on? Is it just not working anymore?

My family doc suggests I be put on zoloft. But i'm scared of the withdrawal effetcs of effexor xr. They're horrible. Obviously, i'll be weaned off but is switching to zoloft such a great idea?

Zoloft is quiet harmless. It is a SSRI (sertaline) and it has minor side effects, including: maybe you ll feel easily tired in the begining of the treatment. Or you ll feel anxiety and worried so it would turn out to be the wrong medicine for your situation. But as far as it has no serious side effects and you can easily stop it (it causes no addiction) you should try it.

I think you'll be just fine I also switched from effexor xr to zoloft and I didn't even notice a difference as far as the withdrawls went. I did however have HORRIBLE withdrawls from zoloft and had horrible side effects for about 1 yr after stopping the zoloft.
