The mri of my knees showed that I have chondromalacia patellae, in other words the cartilage underneath the patellae(=knee cap) in both of my knees is damaged. I was told that I have to see a very good specialist and I made an appointment, but all this waiting is driving me nuts. I am a martial artist, a competitor and this condition is making it impossible for me to train. I was told that surgery might not fix anything and that I might have to stop training.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Sorry but you will only make it worse (you could even end up in a wheelchair) if you either train now or rush the healing process & yes surgery may not totally solve the problem - you may still have "weak" knees & be unable to continue as an athlete.

You have to decide whether to do what you are told & pray that it all works out or do what you wnat to do & possibly end up unable to walk. I had both patella removed 30 years ago after 2 prior surgeries on both knees & am fine but there was never & still aren't any guarantees.

I would suggest that you use this "down time" to builkd up your strength in other areas of your body & Idea look at your life, your goals & reconsider them & make some plans as to what you would do if you can no longer compete, then if the worst comes at least you're prepared & should be able to handle it that bit better.
