Q: How Did You Put Your Baby to Sleep?

I know that the #1 way to reduce .S.I.D.S is to put baby on his back, but I just don't know if I can do it. I am so scared that he will vomit in his sleep and choke ... I am most likely going to put the baby on his side, I think it is much safer
opinions pls!!!

Doctors & nurses will only tell me "back to sleep"! And won't give me any personal opinions. Thanks

edited to add: it won't let me add the poll option "stomach" if thats how you put your baby to sleep. Sorry I dont know what to do! Lol

I dont see anything wrong with the side.

Personally I would wait with tummy sleeping until the baby is about 5 months, that is my opinion. Once my son was old enough to roll over he started sleeping on his tummy by himself and I couldnt stop him, but when they are really young and cant even lift their heads then I would be nervous about tummy sleeping.

My son is an avid spit up"er" and he sleeps on his back and never chokes...Sometimes I put him on his side to avoid the flat head thing from happening...

I added stomach for you.

Trey always slept in his bouncer or swing untill almost 4 months Confused But usually I put him down on his back. Sometimes side, never tummy unless he was napping on me.

Now he sleeps with his a$$ in the air or completely sprawled out. It's so cute. It's also why I never bring him to bed with me, the kid takes up too much room. Lmao

Alyvia slept on her back but always had her head turned to one side. We've coslept since she was about 6 weeks (i think - my memory is horrible) and she's slept on her side every day since. She sleeps tummy-to-tummy with me. We've had no problems.

A baby's skull is kind of soft when they're born. That's why some babies have cone-shaped heads after a vaginal delivery. If they spend a lot of time on their backs, the back of their head will become flat. I'm not positive, but I don't think it is permanent.

Does that make sense?

Oh wow.

Ok, well .Oni slept on her stomach for the 1st 5 months.

She never slept on her back.

She slept on her side for the 1st week, and after that it was a no go.

Her Dr. Said it was fine as long as nothing was obsticting her air ways. Oni's pediatrician is on .Louisiana board of .Pediatrics and is a Dr. Whom discovers/researches new ailments and treatments.

Every Dr. Has a different opinion. As does every mother.

When I was a baby it was "baby face down" so they didn't choke on their vomit. So I mean, which ever way your baby sleeps the best, do it.

Yes, i'm sure I look like a b*tch for asking a question. I'm sure many people wonder the same thing. You should just shut the f#ck up. How's that for being a b*tch?

Finn naps on his belly but sleeps on his back for the night.

I was paranoid for a bit but then I read an article that made a lot of sense to me. It said that the reason it *seems* the back-to-sleep campaign decreased the sids deaths by 50% is actually because back in the day they didn't do autopsies on all infant deaths. A baby would die by say suffocation but they wouldn't do an autopsy, they'd just call it sids.

And I don't know if it's completely proven yet, but they're saying that babies that die from sids have a brain abnormality.

So I let my baby sleep on his belly for naps and I check on him a million times. He moves around a lot and turns his head from side to side and there's nothing in the crib with him, so i'm not too concerned. At night he's on his back, he's thrown up (not spit up, but actually vomited) while sleeping that way and he's never choked on it. This is what works for us.

In the end, it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with.
