Q: Enlarged tonsils and digestive problems
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 10th, 2007
starting with my throat, for the last half a year to a year, i have had enlarged tonsils, they never seem to go away or go down, along with the tonsils, if i push my finger down my throat past my tonsils i can feel all these weird bumps on my throat and it feels like there is somthing caught in my throat and i cant swollow properly, the doctor keeps telling me that its nothing.to make the problems worse for about the same amount of time i have been having alot of digestive problems, loose stool, pains in and around the abdomen, and muscus in my stool. i was wondering if these two diffrent areas could be affeceted by the same illness or is it two diffrent things i can be suffering from, please give me some tips on how to get better

General Q&A Answer A2359
You may ask for second opinion from an ENT-specialist about the first condition with your throat, to identify if there is really “something weird caught” in your throat ,or not.
Given the symptoms of the second condition (“loose stool”, abdominal pain, and mucus in the stool) you could be experiencing some type of colon inflammation, or colitis. To reveal the nature of possible colitis, you'll need to perform a few medical investigations: standard blood work such as blood count, sedimentation, CRP, liver status; microbiological examination of the stool, and an occult blood test. A colonoscopy can be performed later, if necessary.
It doesn’t seem likely that the symptoms from the throat and colon are connected in any way.
