I went on birth control when I was 19. I started ortho tri cyclen and it was great, until after a year. I started having spotting/breakthrough bleeding between periods. I switched brands and it was fine. Until a year. This has happened every year and I am now 23. I have also taken desogen, nordette, am currently taking yaz, and I can't even remember if I have taken another kind. I tried the nuvaring but my boyfriend didn't like it.
Anyway, it's always been after 1 year my periods start spotting between. But I had been on yaz for only 3 months and I started breakthrough bleeding again. I am now spotting for the second month. Both times on yaz it has started one week before my placebo pills begin. It goes for about 3-4 days, then i'm fine until I get my period a couple of days later. What should I do about this? It's extremely frustrating to have to switch pills all the time, and is this normal? Does it happen to anyone else?

You may require a higher dose pill.

Some women do better with breakthrough bleeding and spotting on a higher dose pill.

Ortho tri cyclen regular, ovcon 35, and triphasil are a bit higher dose.

spotting on the pill
i had that problems with spotting with every type of pill i took...when i was on triphasil i even had colostrum leaking out of my breasts...after trying four different kinds of the pill, and spotting with all of them, i realized that my body does not take well to the pill..so i stopped for good..

i spotted while taking lybrel for about 5 months.
i switched to ortho and so far so good.
you might just need to find the right pill, but it sounds like its pretty difficult for you.
my doctor also told me that taking your pill at different times could cause this spotting, but I always took mine correctly.
I wish i could help more!
