Need Help On Defining Mental Condition?? Posted: 02-09-07 03:58am
Hey everyone, I figured this was the best
place to go. I am 20 years old and I
believe I may have some sort of
health/medical problem that I am unaware
of. I have never really talked about it
to anyone. My parents and my brother
knows because of when I was younger and my
friends have noticed little things to, but
I am too embarassed to actually talk about
it and I guess I never really realized
that I may have something. Anyways, here
it goes - I have this thing where I get
excited and make certain faces without
realizing it and I use to shake my hands a
lot. When I was younger and I would see
something on tv that I got excited about I
would maybe even jump up and down a little
with my left hand tighten into my right.
This is where it gets really embarassing,
I use to take something like a magazine,
big book, anything I guess I could use to
take my aggression or exciteness out on,
and I would get on the floor on my knees
with the magazine/book, listen to music
and shake the book in the floor. When I
listen to the music I would imagine the
person singing in my mind like I was the
one in the concert or something. I use
to act out scenes from shows and stuff (i
love tv/music) in my head and talk aloud
while I also would do the floor thing. I
did it when I was young, so I never
thought nothing about it, but it
embarassed me when my dad or mom would
walk in and see me doin it. The last
time I did that I believe was maybe a year
ago when I was alone, but I still
regularly get excited and shake my hands
and my friends even notice me making faces
occasionally and tell me I dont even
notice im doin it. I can think something
and get excited about it and sometimes I
notice, but I guess its second nature for
me and I really look stupid. I do it
more than I would like to think, for
example, if I write something and send it
or anything really, I will tighten my
hands together and like shake and I do it
sometimes without thinking when people are
close by. Does anyone have any idea on
what it may be? Besides all that, I am a
pretty normal guy I guess, lol. This is
all sort of embarassing so I hope I can
actually find some answers and any
suggestions or help from you all would
mean a lot. Thanks so much!

im just gonna throw some stuff out there
for you to research (keep in mind i am no
doctor and its 3am, and ive barely slept
in a week).
-touretts (sp?)
-motor function disorder
-some mild form of (i wanna say down
syndrom but i dont think thats what im
thinkin of....um its where the affected
person is usually in a wheelchair and you
may see them flopping their arms around)
-*grimaces* (im reluctant to mention this
because i think its a bit nuts) sensory
integration
really though, see if theres a forum for
muscle spasm problems or other related
physical stuff....they can help you more.
also try visiting www.wrongdiagnosis.com
where you can search symptoms to find
their connected diseases.

Try aspergers syndrome. You may have many
other symptoms that you never even
realized, and just have learned to live
with.
Sounds like you are displaying a classic
"TICK".
Hope this is helpful.

Need a Neurologist.... Posted: 02-28-07 18:15pm
Some instances I was thinking Tourettes
Syndrome (runs in my family) and others,
transient tic disorder (but you're kinda
too old for that), hmmmm. Have you visited
a neurologist or your family doctor to
discuss this with them? Do any of the
things you do bother you or impair your
everyday life? If not, I truly wouldn't
put too much effort into finding out what
it is. Does not sound like a life
threatening illness. If it bothers you,
maker an appt. and talk about it. I have
t.s. and what you do sounds pretty mild to
me! Best of luck!

You don't have a brain tumor, but you may
have tourettes. I would do a little
research and see if the symptoms fit. If
so, there are drugs that will help. I
would suggest you find a specialist in
your area and get a professional opinion.
Take care,

What Else? Posted: 05-29-07 17:05pm
What other 'symptoms' do you have? Any
mental problems (i.e; recurring thoughts,
touching things a certain way, repeating
words or numbers, anything like that?).
Tics can be tricky to realize especially
when you've 'covered' them for so long.
Hmmmm.....Any sensation issues or
preference to certain textures, smells,
etc.? Just trying to get a broader
spectrum of problems. Let me know....
