Q: Extreme myopia & retinal bleed
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 6th, 2007
I am highly myopic (I think its -13) in my left eye and my right eye is pretty much blind due to late diagnosed lazy eye. I recently suffered a retinal bleed in the left eye which has drastically reduced my vision (the bleed occured dead center). My doctor has said that the bleed was caused by my myopia. Am I more likely to have permanent damage due to the high myopia? Does eye strain make it more likely to happen again? How long before the doctor will be able to tell if the damage is permanent? Also, when reading the eye chart, should I say what I can read period or only what I can read clearly?

Time will tell if this additional damage to your already damaged left eye is permanent, or not.
Have you ever discussed the possibility of treating your severe myopia via laser with your ophthalmologist?
