Hypothyroid? Posted: 02-08-04 23:54pm
I too have almost all the symptoms of
hypothyroidism. All of my blood tests
except for my t3/4 came back normal. My
thyroglobulin level was very high. It is
a thyroid binding protein. I had a total
thyroidectomy on thursday and should know
on the 19th whether or not I have thyroid
cancer. The doctors are very optimistic
that it isn't cause the larger of the
three masses I had was very soft and not
much solid tissue. I had two ultrasounds,
a thyroid biopsy and then of course the
surgery. Your doctor will determine which
is the best course of action to take.
You'll probably have the ultrasound done
first and then go from there.

I am doing ok. Thanks for asking. My
ultrasound showed I have a nodule in my
neck. I knew that! Thats why I went
in......So now I have to go for a iodine
scan. It if so frustating though. Takes
the doctors forever to move on things. I
called a couple endo and could hardly find
one that takes new patients, and still the
wait is over a month. I am going back to
my regular doctor today, see if he can
speed up the iodine scan or whatever.
I'll let you know how it goes. My iodine
scan in scheduled for aug 29, the soonest
they had.

I am glad that you had your ultrasound ,
and I am sure that you will be fine
sweetie, I totally agree with the doctor
side of it , its as though they dont care
, they have no sympathy or even listen to
you when you tell them how you are feeling
, they just seem to knod their heads like
robots (when you know they are not
listening) can get abit frustrating !!!!
I am waiting for my ultrasound appointment
to come through (so fingers crossed it
will be soon) I hope all goes well on the
29th for you , keep me posted. Take care
& stay positive x hugs

Hi narroo, thanks for replying. I went to
the doctor yesterday. I have only been
able to see and talk to his nurse or
assistant or whatever she is. So I made
an appointment and got to see him. He
told me to have my thyroid scan done at
the hospital. So I went over there and
made an appointment. Its a little sooner,
on the 25th. And soooo much closer to my
house than what the assistant wanted to
send me. I don't know if you have had a
radioactive thyroid scan. But you have to
go there in the am and take a capsule and
return in 6 hours for the scan and then
the next morning for another. So having
it closer is much better. I can go there
and then go to work and leave early for
the scan. He also gave me some
reassurance and explained it better. I
also have felt some lumps in my armpits
but they seem to come and go. They
weren't there when I saw him. He thinks
it might be an infection in my lymph nodes
and gave me a prescription for
antibiotics. But I am not going to take
them. I don't know if they will interfer
with the test.
I have never been diagnosed with hypo but
have all the syptoms. He says my blood
tests are all in the middle zone and not
even borderline, but I still wonder. I do
have an appointment with a endo in sept.
So I will take all my tests, etc there and
see what they say.
I read your other posts and see you have
started exercising. I need to do that. I
am about 30 pounds overweight and have no
energy. I have a pool and do some water
aerobics about 4-5 times a week, but its
not the same as walking or a gym. I need
to get moving and quit smoking too.
Let me know how your scan goes.

Hi ya sweetie,
i am so glad that your appointment is
sooner all the best for it , but I am sure
you dont need it as you will be just fine.
Hey at least its closer to your home ,
wow you have a pool , how lucky (it would
cost me abit of money to have one here in
england hee hee) I went to the gym again
this morning (it is knackering) but I feel
so much better for it, I reckon you have
hypo also (do the dr's actually know -
that if a blood test comes back normal )
you could still be hypo ? Have they
offered to try you on thyroxine tablets to
help your metabolism ? (some dr's are so
crap arent they ?)i am sure my scan will
be fine (still waiting for an appt to come
through) I am positive that its just a
cyst or nodule.
Hope to speak again soon , but I would
defo get your hypo sorted out , and you
are exercising with the swimming well done
you

Narroo, when is your ultrasound scheduled?
Are you hypo? I tried to tell my doctor
that the test can read normal & you
can still be....But he says no, my levels
are in the middle. But he was the one
that 1st suggested it last year when I was
telling him how I felt. So he ran the
tests. I checked out the symptoms and it
was me!! But the tests don't say so. I
do have an appointment with an endo doc in
sept., so after I have the thyroid scan
and find out the results I will take all
my test results and see what they say. I
bought some thyroid pills at a health food
store and took them about a week, but I
stopped now, cause I don't want anything
to throw off the scan. But once I have
that test, I will take them again till I
see the endo. Yesterday my neck was sore
and felt worse, but now today it seems
better again. Sometimes I get lumps under
my arms and I told the doctor - of course
they weren't there when I went in, but he
gave me antibotics - said it was my lymph
nodes and I might have an infection. But
I am not taking those till I have the test
either. If, after the test they come back
I might take them, but I hate antibotics.

through for my ultrasound they always keep
you waitign dont they? And yep sweetie I
am hypo (what a pain in the buttocks) but
hey I spose we are lucky that its not
anything worse hey? I would defo get
urself tested out for hypo babe , and see
what the dr's say, did you find the dr
helpful at all? Or as usual not ? I
really do hope you get to the bottom of
all this. I went to the gym this morning

sweating like a p.I.G !!! But I feel
really good for doing it , got a session
on the weights weds night to see how they
work , really looking forwards to using

Yeah, I know what you mean about smoking.
I have to quit too!! I have quit 2x
before and then started again. I think it
gets harder to quit each time. I just
don't have the willpower right now. I
feel depressed alot and the smoking helps.
So what do you do. I thought to trying a
hypnotist. I wonder if that might work.
I got a hypnosis tape but it doesn't help.
I used the patches last time, but I tried
them and now they give me a bad rash. I
am going to see my kids next week in
chicago and will try again when I get
back. Or maybe there. Most of the people
I see in chicago don't smoke so I may be
able to quit then or at least smoke less.
I can't smoke in their houses and that
helps. My hubby smokes so it is so hard
to quit here.
I bought some of that natural thyroid meds
at the health food store and was taking
them, and did seem it was helping, but now
with this thyroid scan I can't take
anything like that till after it overs.
So its just a waiting game right now.
somedays I am just so lethargic.
Yesterday I just layed around and did
nothing. At least the days I work I have
to force myself to get going. I think I
will go exercise a little before I shower
for work. I know that really helps me.
Keep up your exercising. Thats great.
When I get back from chicago and then the
following week, I see my other son in la -
after that I will join a gym.

I believe you can do it if no-one else
does , I believe that your a strong enough
person to push yourself to the limit and
do what you can/want to do! We all can ,
but sometimes you need that 1 person to
believe in you and support you (well I am
here) I am your support and one of many I
would think that will support the things
you do , so after you have seen your
family you get into the excercising thing
and you will start feeling 100 % I
guarantee you, and well as for the smoking
side of it I totally agree with you ,
thats my downfall smoking !! (bad
disgusting habit - I am sure we both know
that) I wanted to try a hypnotist for the
smoking side of things too , but who knows
if it works (the sceptic in me) I hope you
start feeling better and not too tired
(its awful but sometimes I am too tired to
have sex) awful isnt it ? Sometimes I
worry about I feel and forget how
frustrated and peeded off my other half
must get when I am always tired and fall
asleep when hes wide awake , once I
explain I think he understands abit more.
I think its hard for people to understand
how I feel sometimes but heylifes better
than that , no point worrying about stuff
, best way is to fix it urself coz dr's ,
arent bloody helping are they? I am sure
you will find out why ur feeling the way
you do at times , I still reckon its hypo
wotever the quacks say !!!

Ok, it worked that time. I was in chicago
visiting my kids for a while. I am
leaving for calif. Today to visit my
youngest son. I still am tired all the
time but seeing them helps my spirits and
keeps me going. When I am home I just sit
and vegitate. Not good. I am planning to
join a gym when I get back from la and see
if that will motivate me.
I thought about a hynotist too. I also
found some pills on line - a kit with
different herbs. Cost about $100.00 but
if it works its worth it. They are
suppose to make cigarettes take yukky.
I had my thyroid uptake scan and am
waiting for the results. I am going to an
endo doc next friday and will take all my
test to him and see what he says.
Hopefully they will know what it is and I
can get treated.
I was told last year that I have many
large nodules on my thyroid...One of which
was bigger than the rest.... Oh, how fun
was the fine needle aspiration.... What a
wonderful experience having a needle stuck
in my neck 4 times in a row and then going
to work. By far the most painful and
thoroughly disturbing experience of my
life beause they didn't warn me they just
said, ok, today we're going to do an
in-office procedure, only take 10
minutes...Lie down....Ahhhh!!! They put
me on 75 mg of levoxyl after it came back
normal cells to try to shrink the nodules.
Of course, nodules interfer with the
normal functioning of the thyroid
therefore creating a situation of
hypothyroidism. I gained 50 lbs in 6
months and I can't seem to shake it. I
exercise regularly and completely revamped
my diet to exclude any white flour or
fried foods. Doesn't seem to be helping.
It just strikes me as odd that endos
suck at their job so badly. I told my
endo about still feeling tired and putting
on more weight continually and his
response was "yeah". It's very
frustrating, and it's also taxing on my
mental health. They recommended I have
my thyroid taken out which I probably will
do eventually (when health insurance kicks
back in) but I heard there was a
possibility of damaging voicebox...!?!?!?
Plus, if they can't stop me from gaining
weight now...What happens after my thyroid
is completely gone?? I also told my endo
that after the ultrasound my neck was more
swollen and I was getting sharp pains in
it and I couldn't sleep at night for weeks
because I couldn't breath. His response
to that was "probably just more aware of
it"... I said, "do u think the ultrasound
and the pressing down on it may have
irritated it?" he said, "no, it's a
psychological issue" I dunno, I guess
i'm just ranting... No specific questions
here just maybe... Why do endos suck?

Oh, I know that the people who get the
thyroid diseases are very poor cause
thyroid diseases can lead a lot of
problems. But,i have heard from some
people who get recovery or have their pain
relieved after taking the medicine called
tt. www.Greenlife-herbal.Com/
. Some patients received dvd which
can prove this medicine very effective.
http://www.Greenlife-herb
al.Com/qa/ . Wish more people get
recovery as soon as possible. :d
