Q: Putting Baby Down to Sleep

I tried today to put ava down to sleep while she was still awake, but very drowsy. As soon as I put her down her eyes shot open. I patted her butt and gave her her noonie. I left her there for almost 20 minutes and she never fell asleep. She gave aggravated and started fussing and I left her for a couple of minutes and just went pick her up. Should I have left her for longer? We've been holding her for her naps since she was born. We've only put her down for a nap about 5 times and she was sound asleep.
I didn't mind holding her before, but now i'd like to do things while she sleeps. What can I do?
She's 3 months for those who don't know.

Hmm.. Do you have a swing or bouncy seat that you could put her in to get her back to sleep? I've always either done that when I needed to get things done around the house or put her in her crib & turned the mobile on.

Hope something works for you soon!!

I can put her in her swing, but only when she's asleep. If i'd put her in drowsy to let her go to sleep on her own, she'd wake up and get aggravated. In order to put her to sleep we walk around the house with her for about 15-45 minutes.

Im reading the book called "no cry sleep solution", check it out.

It explains sleep training and explains how important routine is for babies.

Oh yeah, this book also stresses a transitional object is a good idea. It will signal bedtime after you do your routine. Trace has a blankie he loves and we are going to start using that. I wish I read this book a long time ago, alot of people swear by it!

I bought that a few weeks ago, but never read it. I'll have to start reading it.
Thanks

How long are her naps? Finn takes 2-3 hour naps and I can't imagine holding him the whole time.

Finn's been a great sleeper from day 1 so I don't think I have anything to contribute really. Maybe just keep trying what you're doing and she might get used to it and eventually fall asleep on her own.
