I have been dealing with depression for almost 10 years. I am now 23 and have taken 2 pregnancy tests that have both said positive. If I still take my depression meds will it hurt the baby, or can I still breast feed? All help would be greatly appreciated.

Depression And Pregnancy
There are some depression drugs that have shown to have no adverse effects on the developing baby. It might be helpful to talk to an ob about this. If this doesn't make you comfortable, do a search online about the studies of certain depression drugs. I don't know which drug you are currently taking, but zoloft is considering ok. I know this because I am 6 weeks pregnant and need to start taking it. I too have suffered on and off from depression for probably 15 years. Pregnancy does seem to make symptoms worse for some.

Hope this helps.

Darlin you both are too blessed to be depressed! God has given you the greatest blessing- a baby! You are in my prayers that your pregnancies go out ok! Great luck to both of you!

Suffering from depression is not easy. It hit me really bad last year when I had a miscarriage. While being pregnant and after your babyis born you may suffer from post natal depression. I dont think that any depression drugs can harm you or your baby at this time but to be safe speak to your gp
good luck!!

Yes, while pregnancy is a happy thing, it doesn't wipe away depression from those who suffer it always.

Talk to your ob/gyn about your meds and see if they want you to continue them or just cut back, etc. Good luck!!

Depression Medication While Pregnant
I have suffered depression and anxiety most of my life, I am 6 weeks pregnant and my doc has given me ciprimil to take while pregnant, I have never felt better. It won't harm the baby but when I get to 2 weeks before delivery I have to reduce the amount I am taking eventually to zero so that the baby does not suffer any withdrawals once it is born. Then after the birth I can start taking them as usual again.
