Q: Bloody Stool....is This Bad?

I had the stomach flu twice back in late nov/early dec. Of 2006. After this I slowly began to see some blood in my stool. I figured it was simply a small tear in my anus or something from not having any food in me and then having food in me. But over the last 2-3 weeks I have noticed more and more blood in my stool and in the potty(sorry, I work with small kids) when I have a bm. Could this simply be that I need more fiber? I am a vegitarian... Or could it be something much worse like hemroids or colon cancer? Is it worth going to the health center at my school? I am really private about stuff and I dont want to go to the health center if this is something I can fix myself...

Thanks for letting me vent/question stuff. Hopefully someone will be able to help me soon

Bloody Stool Update....
I forced myself to go to a general Dr. Today. They did all the typical things. Then they did a rectal exam.... Not as bad as I had though it would be to have someones hand up my butt. He said I don't have hemroids, well at least her couldn't feel any, and I didn't have any tares. So that is good, but he did a simple test for blood, and he said "it was very positive for blood" he gave me a list of colon specialists and told me to get an appointment soon. I go back tomorrow to get full blood work done before church.... If anyone has any ideas on what could be going on I would really appreciate it. My nerves are ranging from colon cancer, or polyps, colitis, or simply ibs, but I don't have any other symptoms of ibs, so as much as I would rather ibs than anything else, I am not looking too closely towards that one. Please let me know if you have any ideas!
