Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 Triggers; DM-1 Posted: 02-01-07 08:34am
Triggers for T1 Diabetes, I know this is
an unclear topic but could a Hepatitis A &
B immunisation trigger Type 1? i have done
some research to no avail. a few people
who worked with me in a large company had
this immunisation and were a few weeks
later diagnosed including myself, seems to
ironic to be coincedence, you think?
Cheers.

Immunization against the Hepatitis B-virus
can not provoke diabetes mellitus type 1.
Diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM-1) is
considered an autoimmune disease.
Beta-cells produce insulin. Insulin is a
hormone that has crucial importance in the
metabolism of the carbohydrates.
Specifically, during diabetes, the
beta-cells in the "Langerhans’s islands"
of the pancreas create insulin. The
immune system creates antibodies and
cytotoxic T-lymphocytes against the beta
cells. Th precise etiology of autoimmune
diseases like Diabetes mellitus type 1
remains unknown. It is assumed that
microbes (bacteria and viruses) trigger
some types of autoimmune diseases but
there aren’t strong evidence that
confirm the theory. In the case of
diabetes mellitus type 1, the assumed
viruses include: parotitis-virus,
cytomegalovirus, rubella-virus and
coxaci-virus. These viral infections are
very common in the normal population, but
DM-1 is a very rare disease. This fact
leads us to the conclusion that the
viruses can cause DM-1 only in people who
have a defect in their immune system. In
other words, people diagnosed with DM-1
have immune systems that are genetically
predisposed to fight against its own
beta-cells in the pancreas. Your family
data tells me that in your family (mother)
there is a predisposition for developing
autoimmune diseases (scleroderma).
